Chapter 16 by fantaghiro
What's next?
only Renee...
From then on, it didn’t matter whether she’d been under hypnosis recently or not — Renee was there. She lounged across the couch, texting her friends while you watched movies. She teased you constantly, called him “old man” more than she called you James. Sometimes she’d mimic scenes from Renee’s volleyball clips while waiting for the microwave, just to make herself laugh.
Even when you were intimate, there was a difference. She was playful. Restless. As if the Sarah you had known was watching from somewhere far away.
The breaking point came during a quiet evening. You were halfway through a film you’d loved as a couple, when she turned to you and asked, “Did Sarah like this movie?”
You froze. “You liked this movie.”
She smiled faintly. “I don’t remember that. I just remember… watching it with you. Before.”
“Before what?” you asked.
Her gaze held his, unreadable. “Before I was me.”
That night, lying awake, you realized there hadn’t been a sharp moment where Sarah vanished. No dramatic flip of a switch. She’d just… dissolved. A little more each time she went under, a little more each time she came home as Renee.
Now, even without the hypnosis, she was Renee — and Sarah existed only in your memory.

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
