Before we continue, we need to talk about level ups.

A level up is achieved once the threshold of experience is reached. The average level for a normal, ordinary human is 10. Adventurers tend to have a level in the 20-30 range. 30 and beyond is reserved for tremendously gifted individuals like Sylphid.

Once you pass Level 20, level ups become more and more rare. Even with my 40 days spend brutally training in Femto’s void and my victory over some remarkably strong foes, I only gained two levels since I entered the **** tournament.

In short, you accumulate experience very, very, slowly over a long period of time.

However, gaining experience is a pleasant feeling and the more you gain at once the more pleasant it feels. Since the experience gain is so slow however, you rarely experience more then a soft tingling and the odd euphoric high if you defeat a particularly strong enemy.

Since each level up requires more experience, the total of pleasure you get per each level also increases. But since the level gain is normally also spread over a longer amount of time you don’t notice that.

This treasure chest buff hit me with one full level up worth of XP at once.
