Zack tries to confess, but gets interrupted

Zack can’t take it anymore, the thought of falling in love with someone who has been by his side his entire life has his heart racing, he was feeling like he was about to go on an exciting adventure. But he decides to go slow, afraid that he could ruin the best thing in his life.

“Hey Chloe, sorry about jumping on you last night.” He said, looking at the view below.

She laughed, her red hair looking like it was on fire on the morning sun. “Don’t worry about it, Zack. You didn’t jump me,” She looked at him. “I asked you to do it.”

“Still, it was a little inappro…”

Chloe put a finger on his lips. “Shush, the way I see things, it was just two good old friends helping each other in a time of need.”

“So you wouldn’t mind doing it again should the need arise?” Zack heard himself asking, not quite believing that he actually did.

Chloe turned to him with her mouth gaped. However, when she seemed to be about to answer, she got interrupted.

“Hey, you two!” A female voice yelled from some point behind them. “You got quite high there.”

Zack and Chloe turned around to see Heather and Kurt climbing the outcropping. After a while, the cousins joined them at the top, both fully dressed in hiking clothes. Zack immediately become wary because of Kurt, something that had become second nature to him whenever the blonde guy was around.

“You guys split from the others?” Chloe asked.

“Not quite,” Heather answered. “Kurt wanted to see the rock outcropping, so since I come here much more often than him, I volunteered to show him.”

“Yeah, thanks for that, cousin.” Kurt said. “You can go back to your friends now.”

Heather pouted. “Aww, you’re no fun, Kurtie.” She complained, before taking a hold of Zack’s arm. “C’mon, Zack let’s go back with me to where the trails fork, then you can come back here.”

“Hey, why can’t you go alone?” Zack asked, not wanting to leave Chloe alone with Kurt. “I thought you said that you hiked these trails since you were a kid.”

Heather nodded. “And it’s just because of that that I want you to come with me.” She explained. “’Cause you have to protect me if, I don’t know, a bear finds me and wants to eat me.”

He almost laughed at the absurdity of that possibility, but he didn’t want to upset Heather, since they were all guests at her cabin. He turned to Chloe.

“I’ll be right back, I’ll just escort the lady to the sign.” He said. His friend just smiled at him and nodded.

His stomach churning at the thought of Chloe alone with Kurt, Zack and Heather began the walk back to the sign. The brunette cheerleader actually was good conversation, Zack didn’t know that since there were just a couple times that he was alone with her. All the other times there was a least one of their friends with them.

About ten minutes later, they arrived at the sign and after thanking Zack and waving at him, Heather ran into the path leading to the forest. Zack assumed that’s where the others were. As soon as he lost sight of her, he turned around and began to walk back to the outcropping. He walked a little faster and managed to reach the rocks in eight minutes.

He started to climb the outcropping again. Soon, his head was high enough to see Chloe and Kurt.
