Chapter 4

What's next?

Your mom was gone from the living room

"Mom?!!!" You called her from the last place she sat. You called up through the spacious void of the multistory house, hoped that it'll reach her somewhere in the house.

You then explore every corner of the first floor, Dashed in to the kitchen, but she wasn't there. Other than that, nothing seemed to change since you and your mom finished dinner. No one there but you and the tidied-up kitchen apparatuses and the sparkling marble of the kitchen set.

You then dashed to other rooms and corners, under confusion of her disappearance without any word to you.

"Mom?" She wasn't there on the backyard, though the sky were clear with the full moon at its brightest.

What a night, what a night

"Mom?!" Going way back to the middle of the house, and went up the stairs to your mother's room. The door seemed closed so she must've been there. You then called her without tampering with the door handle, guessing that she probably needed an emergency since you occupied the ground floor bathroom. Still, there was no reply but eerie silence.

"Mom?!!"Last but not least was the garage, you got another of your quick feet there. The garage was tidy and no traces of missing tools. Nevertheless, she wasn't there.

As you came back in towards the living room, you heard quite a ruckus outside.

"What the hell is going on?!" You said, walking towards the guest room window and looked outside.

The neighborhood was noisier than usual. Yells and loud voices blaring off-rhythm and dominantly came to your left ear, seemed to happen throughout most of the neighborhood. You were hearing more yells that night, more than during any annual celebrations.

These are the common shouts or what you heard people basically said, from their own ways.

"Aaaahhh..." many of various screams, from a child-shriek, loud and blaring raspy women, and manly screams that's discernable as a sprinkled-chocolate compared to those two earlier who completely filled the whole ice cream cone.

"Where am I?!" Then you heard some loud question which more or less weirdly asked this, as if they just awakened on a strange place. The streets were silent, so maybe they woke up sober from a load of drink in their own house.

The panic went on within their houses, with various screams and various names from A to Z called loud. The on-going bunch of noises in one night started to tickle your curiosity.

"What the hell?! Who is this?!" Besides the continued panicking screams, the next few of flock of noises more or less asked this. Which sounded silly, and made you wonder if there was actually something going on that you missed for unceremoniously went to the bathroom for dumping your shit. The thought of your neighbors playing the silly 'Guess who?' flashcard game altogether became more and more plausible. You then decided to sit down and waited for more silly outbursts.

"Who are you?!" "Where are my kids?!" "Where are my parents?!" The next group of screams shredded the silly theory earlier, the noises then had this loads of graveness. You also heard some cries into the noises, which seemed like one of those aftermath in a war documentary.

You can't stand the noise outside and it pushed your lazy butt out of the house. Wondering if those screams were howls of grey smokin-ghosts and you didn't want to miss another thing.

The screams, now unhindered by your house, came to your ears with better clarity.

"Aaaahhh..." still with the bunch of screams and call-outs, sounded from a child-shriek, loud and blaring raspy women, and manly screams that's discernable as a sprinkled-chocolate. A man's noise were heavier compared to those two (child and women) who completely filled the whole melted ice cream. To your disappointment, the tangible screams were far less hollow than Ghostbusters' ghosts. But still, why was there's so many people screamed on their edge of desperation in one night?

Suddenly someone called you out as soon as you step on the street sidewalk.

"Kid!... are you Dave? My son?" Lester said, he seemed to be in a rush based on those tensed up hands with his body stance fully vigilant. He's same age as you but a distant neighbor, with you happen to be slumped with school and friends back then to not really into being close with kids from different schools.

What?! Wait, you had a son?!

Your took a moment to be fine with what he said before looking at him again to reply. "No, sorry." You said, which Lester double back to his house. Minutes later he got on his family's car and drove away, rather drove like a natural. That made you quite jealous, you should've persuaded your sensitive mom better. Its a sudden news for you since your mom hadn't talk about any of it, and she's deep into the neighborhood gossip. But then, that incident made you confused either. Why would Lester's parents suddenly allowed him to drive their only car?

The case didn't stop on Lester, with few more people leaving their house in various vehicles. Though it wasn't necessarily cars. There were even kids within those few leaving their house and filling the street, riding kinds of transport that their feet could reach. There some who were way younger than Maisie and yet strangely brave to leave at night.

"HEY!!! Where are you guys going?!" Then, there was a peculiar loud womanly voice that brought your attention. It came from none other than Josh's house across the street. Alice (Josh's step-mom) walked out her porch in frenzy, uncharacteristically stride her steps with crazed hoo-ha expression her oval nun face. She seemed to be possessed by some lunatic, and it walked her out of her house in plain camisole while swinging a bottle.

Your obsession seemed to failed you, you scary witch!

A nudge at her for being religiously strict but acted ignorantly and unkind to others who she deemed isn't religious enough. This Alice you saw was way better than her usual mannerism. Never thought you'll see her again so soon.

But then, this 'Alice' would still be better if she didn't saw you. "Hey Kid!!!" Suddenly, this 'Alice's called you out, and trotted out of her porch. You're hot on your legs and immediately lock yourself in. A view to her thrilling brown eyes, constantly crazed smiles, along with those crazy walk in her camisole and shorts depicted terror of unknown means.

What a night, you catch your breath to a close encounter. Aside from that, many people acted out of age. Kids acted brave like adults, and adults turned crazy like Alice. You then looked out the window again to wash your eyes, only to see a man crawling and sucking his thumb out on his porch.

The view outside made you wonder what happened to your dad and your siblings. It was getting late and they hadn't come home, or even yet call the house. Your mom was out of place as all of the ones outside, its not like her to be gone without a word.

Last but not least, after you saw what's happening outside.

This became one of the nights you didn't want to be home alone.
