Chapter 9 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

Does something interrupt your house cleaning?

Your first would-be intruder

You have no idea how long you just spaced out for while cleaning off sand. You can't remember what you may have been thinking about in order to space out, but you don't really mind in the end. At least it has distracted you for long enough to get some decent work done before succumbing to boredom.

Even after what you assume to be at least two hours, the mural is still not visible enough to decipher what it is about. You are annoyed at this, but there isn't much you can do aside from clean faster. The Scarab didn't seem capable of cleaning on the precision needed here, more a bulk gathering. So, it is up to you.

You can tell it has been a long time, as outside it is far darker then when you began. You can also see a windstorm raging outside, possibly going to pick up into a full sandstorm. Sand was obscuring the outside, though you could still see objects within. You don't know who Horus was, or why a seemingly random skeleton has his eyes, but you are quite thankful for being given them.

Your ponderings are interrupted by a notification in your vision.

Potentially hostile creature detected
Activating Raid Boost

You stare at the message in slight confusion before you feel a surge of energy. A power surrounds you as you feel stronger than ever before. Eventually the sensation levels out, leaving you somewhat confused, but definitely having an adrenaline rush. You question the system as to what happened, and to your surprise a segment of one of the guides you hadn't read yet pops up.

Raid Boost:
A feature for raid dungeons that activates when the owner of the dungeon is the last combat monster in the dungeon. It multiplies all of their stats by an amount dependent of the dungeon level, making them equivalent to the strength of event Raid Bosses of their level.

You were very happy with this massage. A Raid Boss could usually go toe to toe with a team of at least 5 adventurers at their level without it being in the adventurers' favor. With this ability, you would be able to handle any dangers that were conceivably manageable.

You finish reading the excerpt from the guide and look back to the notification. You aren't sure how you should react to a "potentially hostile creature". You also have no idea how much of the surrounding area is within your claim, so you have no idea how immediate of a problem this could be. For all you know, it could be someone walking down a pathway somewhat nearby who knows nothing about you.

With the system as annoyingly vague and unhelpful in that regard as ever, you aren't sure what you should do about it. If you react aggressively when you don't need to, you could make enemies. On the other hand, if you don't defend yourself properly you could go back to dying continuously again, and probably more commonly as you were a dedicated boss now.

Your concerns are ended as the situation is taken out of your hands. Within the now raging sandstorm, you begin to see a figure being buffed by the high-speed winds. You can make out a humanoid shape cowering under a cloak as they seem to wander, slowly finding their way towards the cave.

You decide that while they do not yet seem like a threat, there is no reason not to be cautious. You maneuver to the side of the door, hiding in the corner of the room as you nervously wait for the figure to enter.

You wait for a few moments and begin to wonder if they will even find your cave when at last you hear them dragging their feet near the entrance. As you silently stand in position, making sure not to do anything that would draw attention, you watch the entrance as the figure enters.

The moment you see them, you can tell they aren't an adventurer. Their clothing wasn't some hyperfancy armor or super revealing scraps of metal or leather, but an actual outfit suited for the desert. They have a large cloak they were using to shield themselves from the winds and sand, covering them so you can only see a slight amount of their form. They have beige colored fur that you can see in their paw-like hands and feet. Their head was underneath the hood, though you can tell from how it hung that the person had large ears that held the hood above their head.

They quickly glanced around, missing you in your hiding place. The darkness that covered the interior was currently your greatest asset, and with the night now beginning, it would grow no brighter for a long time. They let out a large sigh as they move to the left wall, flopping down on the ground and leaning against the mural.

You feel slightly annoyed by them laying against the mural, but it isn't like they are going to damage it. You watch them silently as you contemplate what you are going to do about them. You can attack them, but there isn't much of a point to that, as they don't seem like they have anything of value. On the other hand, you could just stand and hide until they leave, but that idea hurts your pride as a newly appointed Raid Boss.

Before you can finish deciding what you wish to do with the trespasser, you notice them suddenly become on edge. The reason is quickly revealed as you see that your Scarab has finished with their gathering and is hauling the ball of sand to the point you had been standing when you first commanded it. They flinched and **** themselves as far from it as they could, reaching into a pocket under their cloak and pulling out a small dagger.

The Scarab of course pays them no heed, but they seem to be much less at ease now, holding the dagger out in front of them. You become more inclined to act now, as it is far less likely that they will just sit there for the whole night and then leave.

Much to your disappointment, you turn out to be right as they begin to cautiously approach the source of the buzzing noise your Scarab makes as it flies. You slowly follow them, wanting to be within a reactable range in case they do something. They look confused as they get close enough to see the large ball of sand, but push on past it towards the great pile at the back where your Scarab has landed.

As they reach the Scarab, they raise the dagger above their head to strike, only for you to catch it. They freeze as you hold their arms above their head, seemingly unable to process that there is someone behind them.

They slowly turn their head around to look at you, and you would have smiled at them if you had lips. The dagger falls from their hands, landing on the floor between you. To your surprise, this seems to be more of a combat maneuver than giving up, as they quickly get one of their arms out of your grip and swiftly grab the dagger before attempting to stab you. Unfortunately for them, their surprise attack is wasted as the dagger slides perfectly between your ribs, getting caught in the process.

You both momentarily stare down at your chest before looking up at each other again. You then decide to test out your improved strength as you lift them up by their arm, their feet flailing as they try to find something to stand on.

You reach down with your free hand and carefully twist the dagger out of your ribs, examining it carefully. It isn't of bad make, however, it most certainly wasn't the type of equipment that an adventurer would use for long. It seemed to have not been properly sharpened in a long time, though it did have a nicely decorated handle.

As the intruder flails in your grip, their hood falls off of their head. A feminine fox head is revealed, with large ears and big, brown eyes. She glares at you with bared teeth as she struggles, hissing seemingly to try and intimidate you.

As you examine both her and her blade, you try and decide just what exactly you are going to do with her.

Well then, what shall be her fate?
