Chapter 25 by Trom1806 Trom1806

Despite your fatigue, you continue your journey to the capital...

You travel through a forest that becomes a little less dense.

You are walking along forest paths. Large trees have long given way to smaller and younger ones, some to nothing more than saplings. The ground is soft from recent rain. You understand that you will soon approach the outskirts of the capital of the kingdom of Morthem.

So you continued to follow the road going through the forest to the north towards the capital of the kingdom of Mortham, the city of Granveith. According to your calculations, there are still about 5 kilometers left to the city of Granveith.

You can see a road leading north out of the woods and reaching the edge of a large grassy field that appears to lead to the town of Grantwaite.

So, you can already see the outskirts of the city of Granveith. The forest ends and you walk past fields sown with wheat. In the distance you can see the high stone walls of the city of Granveith. Along the road leading to the city you see a pair of gallows on which several dried corpses are hanging in a noose. On the corpses you can see wooden signs tied with ropes to each corpse. On each tablet is the inscription: “Criminal - punished for rebellion against the king and his vassals.”

You assume that these hanged people were probably participants in the recent peasant uprisings, which occurred due to food shortages, increased taxes and the tyranny of the aristocrats who came from Orlania.

You approach the southern city gate of the capital. You are impressed by the high stone walls of the capital of the kingdom of Morthem, the city of Granveith. At the gate stands a group of soldiers with halberds and maces. There are about a dozen of these soldiers. You understand that these soldiers are probably representatives of the city guard and control the flow of people leaving the city or going to the city. It is obvious that these representatives of the city guard also collect entry fees from people going into the city.

You join the queue of people going to the capital. In front of you are being checked by a couple of small peddlers who loudly complain about the high fee for entering the city - however, the commander of these ten city guard soldiers loudly orders the peddlers to shut up or else they will also be charged a fine for questioning the orders of the royal authority in areas of taxes and fees. The peddlers fall silent in fear and pass through the southern gate into the city.

You are next in line for verification.

You are walking towards the city guards.
