Chapter 26 by Trom1806 Trom1806

You are walking towards the city guards.

The guards surround you and the commander of these ten city guard soldiers begins to interrogate you.

You feel uncomfortable surrounded by such a large number of well-armed guards... But you try to restrain your emotions. You control your every word and you try to briefly answer the guard commander’s questions.

The guard commander looks at you arrogantly. You feel in his gaze a certain mixture of disdain, contempt and awareness of your own superiority.

He asks the first question: “What is your name?”

"Elmar, sir."

"Which class do you belong to?"

"I am a local Morthem peasant by birth, sir."

"What is your purpose for visiting the city?"

"I'm looking for a job, sir."

The commander of these ten city guard soldiers tells you: "Pay a fee for entering the city in the amount of 1 silver coin." You give him 1 silver coin. So you now have 77 silver coins and 155 copper coins left.

You enter the city through the southern gate.

You remember that the note that you took from the corpse of the merchant Porberd indicated that the large outskirts of the city of Granveith are distinguished by the fact that they are inhabited by the poor, small traders, and ordinary guild workers. These outlying neighborhoods are quite unsafe and there are often fights, thefts and other incidents. You understand that you are now in one of these outlying neighborhoods... Namely, you are in the South Gate quarter. You understand that it is already evening time and you need to find a place to stay for the night. You walk along the narrow streets of the South Gate quarter and notice several signs, among which there is this sign: “Boar's Tusk Inn and Tavern.”

You enter this tavern.

Among other things, you remember that in a note from an old acquaintance of the merchant Porberd, the following is stated: “... remember, Porberd, borrowing from these people is dangerous... but if your business in trade is too bad, in the South Gate quarter in any tavern, try to ask at your own risk about the person nicknamed Merryman... these people clearly have the money to give a loan.”

There are a lot of people in the tavern, mostly men, but here and there you see a few women and even a few children.

You approach the tavern owner and ask him: “How much does it cost to stay for one night?”

The innkeeper looks at you suspiciously and says, “60 copper coins.”

You nod. You give the tavern owner 60 copper coins for an overnight stay. So you now have 77 silver coins and 95 copper coins left.

Now you have a place where you can sleep. What do you do next?
