Chapter 24

So, what do you say to your father?
You tell him that you... agree. No matter what, he is your father. You will sincerely help him.
You are now in a state of conflicting emotions. The terrible things your father did are completely contrary to your sense of morality. You shudder to think that the **** or slavery of the Muktree villagers was due to the carefully planned actions of your own father. In addition, Daniel Ortley has been planning to seize power in your bunker for a long time... This action, according to all the norms and customs of the inhabitants of Ortley's bunker, is nothing more than a serious crime, an attempt to prepare to overthrow the legitimate power of the elected Council of Elders!
However, not all so simple…
If you renounce simplified black-and-white morality, from the naive division of all phenomena and persons in the world into absolute good and absolute evil, then in the depths of your soul you will feel an awareness of the logic of your father’s arguments. Daniel Ortley is rightfully concerned about the future of the residents of your bunker. Indeed, the Council of Elders is largely composed of cautious and conservative individuals who believe in the benefits of isolation from the outside world. And one more thing: these persons are accustomed to their status as rulers; they will not give up their powers simply because of some (even the most logical) explanations. What should you do?!
Daniel is your father. He is the person who raised you since childhood. He taught you almost everything you know: how to use weapons, make trade deals and always be careful and prone to cold-blooded rational analysis of reality.
He is your closest relative, who together with you overcame the consequences of the tragic **** of your mother Emma (this happened when you were a child of five - Emma died from some strange infectious disease, like dozens of other residents of the bunker; then only strict quarantine measures and a thorough medical examination helped save the remaining residents of Ortley's bunker).
You left the bunker to find Daniel Ortley. For his sake, you undertook a dangerous journey through the wasteland. For your father's sake you endured various hardships, dangers and sufferings.
And you managed to achieve your goal.
You have found your father. You have found Daniel Ortley.
But the true circumstances of his disappearance turned out to be completely different from what you originally thought...
Do you really need to abandon all your principles now?!
Or do you need to renounce your father?!
There is a chaos of conflicting thoughts in your head.
However, you soon come to some more specific intentions.
If the disastrous course of government of the Council of Elders sooner or later leads to collapse...
If Daniel Ortley's plan offers hope of saving the majority of the bunker's inhabitants...
You know what you need to do...
You continue to hug your father.
Tears continue to flow from your eyes.
Finally you whisper back to him: “I... I agree... I'll be on your side, dad. We are one family even if the whole world is against us. I will be by your side no matter what!”
Daniel Ortley looks into your beautiful light blue eyes and you see an expression of relief on his face.
He smiles at you, the wrinkles on his forehead smoothing out slightly.
He says in an excited tone: "I'm glad you accepted my offer, Jerome. Thank you... I will give orders to ensure that you and your strange... friend are provided with the best possible living conditions in this place. In addition, you should choose decent protective equipment. After all, soon we... Soon we will return home!"
What will happen as a result of your choice?
