"Life isn't worth living without some risk" you say as you lay there in Elise's arms, safe and warm. "I do need to learn from you, and you seem to be the best teacher I've ever run in to. I'll take the risk, and join up with you and your crew for a while. I want to learn everything there is that you know, and I want to learn everything I can about a starship's operations. Hands on experience is the best teacher."

Elise giggles. "I should know. My hands are all over you, and you're quite an experience. That's why I'd hate to see you go so soon. I-I'm falling in love with you, Val. It's been so long since I felt this way. I promise you the best hands on training the crew and I have to offer you. You'll be taught self defense and how to use various weapons by my security chief. He's the best in the business, and he can teach you how to make simple, powerful weapons out of common, ordinary things that will take down a heard of Ravenous Bugblatter Beasts in a single shot."

"The ship's engineer can teach you all you need to know about ship's operations and maintenance." Elise pauses to kiss the back of your neck. "Everything tactical can be learned from the bridge officers, which include me. But there are other things I can teach you as well. I know all kinds of tricks no one else has even dreamed of. I'll teach you those in your spare time, when we're alone. I need a new First Officer, and I'd like you to fill that role. I lost my last First to a bunch of slavers who were after her. She was a lot like you in many ways. I've been hard pressed by the crew to replace her. I guess I just kept holding out false hopes that I'd get her back. But the job is yours, if you earn it. Just know I'm not going to give up on trying to make that flat belly of yours round, fat, and pregnant. Do you accept that?"

You turn around in Elise's arms, and face her with a smile. "I wouldn't expect you to stop trying. I accept the risk. I'll join up with you. But don't be too surprised. I'm a fast learner, and I'd love to be your First Officer. To be honest, I think I'm falling in love with you, too, Elise. You just might end up with that baby you want me to have so badly."
