You call a sibling to make sure they are okay

Eventually you will have to tell your mother about the affair – maybe after she returns home and you make sure that she is fine. But right now, it was not only your mother for which you were worried – you still didn’t know about the fate of your siblings.

Ashley will likely be okay amongst all this, she's smart to figure things out. Besides, mom did say that she's on her way here. So there's one arriving sibling.

Maisie was with Tabitha, in a house that wasn’t so far away from yours, and most probably with adults taking care of the situation, so for now that was a pass.

But you didn’t know anything about your brother. Best case scenario he is with his friends around a park or fair, together they should be fine until reaching a secure place.

Worst case scenario, he was alone, maybe was on the way to meet the others, whoever they were, or just chilling, at the mall and seeing a movie. The uncertainties of the situation make him the next person to contact. In the worst-case scenario as the big brother, you would go search for him.

One time, two times... after the 7th attempt in calling and failing in contacting your brother, you decided to desist. Not only he wasn’t answering, it was becoming very difficult to reach him via call, as if there was a great quantity of people calling at the same time.

Right now, you were fearing for the worst. It seems that whatever is happening here was also happening in others areas, and you didn’t know how big it was – or that it was for the matter. And the fact that right now you could hear helicopters flying outside was a clear sign that whatever happened, it wasn't a small thing or an unimportant one.

You started dialing at the same time that you tried to change the television to a national or local channel. But something caught your eyes. At the top of the screen, it was the message “Internet connection not found”. This was impossible you were subscribed a Wi-Fi connection.

Meanwhile you backtracked and call Maisie instead, making sure that she's okay before searching somewhere for David. You didn’t wait, the fact that she picked up the call was short of a miracle.

“Maisie! Are you okay!?”, you shouted to the other side, clearly you were losing your cool.

[…] Silence was the answer. The worst type of answer

“Maise?...”

[Not Maisie...], it was clearly her, but her voice was as if she was very unsure about the correct answer, threading every word that she said.

“Not Maisie?! What do you mean?... Are you okay?”

[Dr. Issacs. Please call me Dr. Issacs. And you are... this body’s brother... I suppose...] every time that your younger sister – or what you think was your sister – wasn’t sure about something, she started to prolong the words. This was something that she has never did before, being more of a bubbly person, even when she was mad or sad.

“Maise, what the hell are you talking about? You are seriously starting to freak me out!”

[Young man, if you could let me explain!], a pause. The tone of voice that she employed was very different to anything that she has ever done before. After clearing her throat – another stuff that you have never seen her done – she continued. [As you can see... or hear... I suppose... something very bad has happened to a big enough area of the city... or maybe bigger...]

She paused, probably waiting for feedback. But right now, you didn’t even were sure that Maisie was really Maisie – maybe she was Dr. Issacs, whoever he was, or supposed to be. And the implications that whatever happened to her has also happened to a lot of other people – including probably your mother and your whole family – was making your pulse to increase, your worries to growth, and your head starting to hurt.

And she continued.

[I will call whatever had happened, given the presented evidence as ‘Uncertain Area Great Shift Event’. People apparently have changed positions but not bodies over an area still to determine. In simple words, a ranged body swap event over an uncertain distance...] Another pause, bigger that the last one, [And for reasons that I don’t know, not everyone has been affected. And it is even possible that for everyone that has been affected, the victims, not everyone has been affected in the same way], Maisie, or rather Dr. Issacs concluded.

“Maise... ehm Dr. Issacs... what the hell... Body swap over long distance.... What?....”

[Heeey! With who are you talking? The Police?] This time another voice could be heard, you could recognize Tabitha, Maisie's best friend. But for her tone of voice, apparently it wasn't her.

[No.... with this body’s brother...]

[Let me talk with him!], you could her a little bit of fight going on the other line. [Hey big brother! I'm readying my pussy, would you like to.... hey! No! Lend me that thing!]

[Fucking hell Albert! This is a very important stuff and you are taking this as a Joke!]

[What! I was just trying out the new voice, this is freaky as hell!!!]

[Shut the fuck up!...] There was a silence after this little confrontation. Whoever this Albert guy was, he's clearly enjoying the situation while many others didn't. Your sister voice soon after could be heard again. [Sorry for the interruption... I presume that you know where your sister is. If you come, I could explain to you better the situation. Also, I expect the government will very soon start to restrict all the different kind of communication, or access to the internet, so we need to make this short... see you soon....]

“Wait, no!” but it was for nothing. Dr. Issacs has cut off the communication, and you presumed that even calling him would result in nothing. “What a fucking day!” First Kaylee couldn’t come to the dance, then you couldn’t go see the movie with Josh and Cassie, and now a fucking event whatever it was called has affected all of your family, and who knows how many others.

“Better go now. With some luck I will not meet with a weirdo.” Preparing yourself, you take the keys, the jacket and a crowbar from your father's tools, and prepared yourself to embark yourself in this crazy of a night, in direction towards Maisie.
