Chapter 18

An uneasy premonition arises in you as you see the fight escalating in the streets of the town...
You and your companions confront the enemy... However, the consequences of what happened await you...
The sounds of fight fill the streets of this small town...
The screeching of metal from damaged giant war-mech...
The rumble of collapsing buildings...
The cries of pain from the wounded...
You look around in horror and see a group of mutants attacking Wilson Rowland using primitive means (like fists, horns, or claws).
You try to help Ursula and Barbara...
But alas, what happens next leaves you **** but to desperately attempt to evade the terrifying, deadly threats...
Wilson's high-tech weaponry (his metal gloves with an integrated miniature laser disintegrator) mercilessly strikes down one mutant after another...
Despite the dedication of these individuals **** from the surface of the earth (they are desperately trying to neutralize the one who attacked their chief's daughter), many of these mutants die a brutal ****. Before your eyes, dark green laser beams burn through flesh, sever limbs, and leave wounds so vile and incompatible with life that you feel a wave of nausea...
One of these laser beams burns through two mutants at once: a mutant kangaroo-rat and a mutant hummingbird fall dead, emitting heart-rending cries of hellish suffering.
You see streams of blood, bile, and the bloody entrails of creatures that were recently alive...
You yourself barely have time to dodge these terrifyingly dangerous laser beams: you are **** to fall to the ground and roll while Wilson Rowland (even while lying on the ground and being beaten) fires wildly.
"Vile mutants! Filthy traitorous bastards! You dare attack me?! Do you even know WHO I am?! I will destroy you all!!! Agrrrghh ... - Rowland's screams of mad rage reach your ears.
With each passing second, his face, limbs, and body as a whole are turning into a bloody mass...
There are too many mutants...
They furiously pounced on Doctor Wilson Rowland.
Claws, horns, fists, hooves...
All of this crushes and tears human flesh...
You watch it all in horror and feel as if you've witnessed two predators devouring each other...
A dark green laser beam flashes past your left ear! You instinctively try to recoil...
Alas, you just lost the lobe of your left ear...
The foul smell of roasting human flesh...
Your flesh...
Pain...
However, it could have been much worse: if that shot had been more accurate, your skull would have had one large laser-burned hole in your forehead...
In the periphery of your vision, you notice Ursula successfully deflecting one of the deadly dark green laser beams: she blocks the attack (which threatened to hit her in the stomach) with her electric spear.
One high-tech weapon collided with another...
The graceful figure of a girl with dark blond hair and blue eyes this time withstood the attack that threatened ****...
Unfortunately, the electric spear, having absorbed the laser damage, experienced an energy overload and clearly ceased to be functional.
Ursula noticed this and deftly discarded the electric spear, which was about to detonate due to critical damage.
The discarded weapon exploded, and the blast wave again threw Wilson Rowland, a bloodied figure who had just regained his feet and driven off a group of mutants with furious fire. And now the mutants have pounced on him again...
This time, Wilson has no chance to rise...
You see the mutants' fangs and claws mercilessly tearing at his flesh...
Screams of hellish pain...
A moment later, your gaze notices a bloody object lying among the dirt and ruins...
It...
"Is this... Wilson's severed, gnawed arm?!" - you lie on the ground, wishing what you saw weren't real.
However, it's a fact – a bloody piece of flesh (which bears little resemblance to a human hand) is wearing that very same metal glove with an integrated miniature laser disintegrator...
The noise around you grows much louder...
Although the deadly laser shots seem to have stopped...
Something else disgusting flies overhead (it seems to be the severed head of Wilson Rowland)...
You are deafened by the roar of collapsing buildings and the screams of the town's inhabitants...
You slowly rise to your feet, your gaze anxiously scanning the area.
Looking up, you realize that something extremely dangerous has happened...
The giant war-mech (30 feet!) begins to uncontrollably collapse due to critical damage to its sensory control systems. It seems the damage from the electric spear affected critical components of the internal control systems due to the cascading effect of the electrical pulse on the microchips inside the war-mech...
The absence of a pilot only worsened the situation...
As a result, the giant war-mech began to randomly attack everything around it with missiles, cannon fire, and a huge machine gun!
You run up to Ursula and help her save Barbara: together, you quickly run toward the wall of the nearest building.
Missiles explode in the air...
Several two-storied buildings lose their roofs due to missile explosions...
Shells of a cannon shatter the walls of houses and strike anyone nearby with terrifyingly sharp shrapnel...
A deadly stream of lead "waters" the streets like a rainstorm...
You catch a glimpse of the huge machine gun destroying several dozen local inhabitants (civilians, children, guards... no one can survive such a powerful weapon...).
The remnants of the mutant group are running after you...
Also running behind you are some of the saboteur soldiers from the Ursula's group...
All of them, like you, are trying to escape...
The screeching of metal and the roar of explosions become deafening...
Explosions thunder one after another...
A second before your small group can hide in the basement of one of the houses, you see the twisted remains of the giant mecha falling on the town streets.
A large piece of molten, hot, twisted metal (apparently part of a "goblin" war-mech head) falls near the basement entrance, crushing one of the mutants who had been running after you, hoping to find salvation in the chaos.
You feel some kind of liquid splashing on your back...
If you turned around, you would see that this liquid was the mutant's brain, spraying out of his skull crushed by the metal...
So, now your group of survivors is sitting in a dark basement...
You, Ursula, and some of the soldiers from her sabotage squad, Barbara (she seems to be **** due to multiple bruises – she was hit by falling building debris)...
The roar of explosions continues outside. The entrance to the basement seems to be blocked by the rubble of destroyed structures...
You feel pain...
You also seem to have bruises on your back and right arm...
And there's also a pain in your left ear (that laser beam will probably haunt your nightmares).
"This town... Medina al-Ansari... This town is small... Probably a fifth the size of The Undercity... The destruction and **** toll will be a very painful blow to the Ansari... This tragic event could be the cause of the collapse of this small, secretive organization... Or it could be the cause of a change in the very nature of this movement: the Ansari could become more determined, more cruel, and more prone to vengeance... And the mutants? What will they think of what's happening now? I suspect our group will inevitably face problems and discord... Or worse..." - your mind continues to process the events and their consequences. Suddenly, a plaintive, pained groan comes from the far corner of the basement.
"Ashley... Don't die... Please..." you recognize the voice; it seems to be one of the soldiers from the Ursula's sabotage team.
Dennis...
Yes, that's his name...
His girlfriend, Ashley, is lying on the basement floor. Dennis is holding her head in his hands.
She looks... very bad.
Probably because of the adrenaline, she was able to run to the basement with you.
Alas, you see that her armor is simply "riddled"...
Numerous bullet wounds in the torso, shoulders, and arms...
All this is the result of chaotic fire from a huge machine gun: deadly pieces of lead ricocheted off numerous buildings.
Ashley tries to say something to Dennis...
"I love you..." the young girl's voice is very quiet.
After this phrase, her gaze becomes "glassy" and lifeless. A thin trickle of blood slowly trickles from the corners of her plump, scarlet lips...
So, what will you and your companions do now?
