Chapter 6 by ErisAphrodite ErisAphrodite

Did Orus rest in the hot spring?

Yes.

The spring appeared perfectly suitable for bathing, and so with a great sigh, Orus stripped himself of his armor, proceeding to remove his underclothes as he cast the steaming water another scrutinizing glance. It was deep toward the middle, but the edges were shallow enough to recline in.

And so, after a moment of standing naked in the clouds of steam swirling around, he did just that, slowly lowering himself into the hot water, acclimating every inch of his body as he went. It was a blessing after the mountain's cold, and full feeling returned to his extremities very quickly. The stone of the pool was smooth, and though it took some doing, he found a comfortable position in which he could lay back, neck-deep in the spring.

He closed his eyes, feeling utterly relaxed. The steamy valley was silent but for the water lapping at the pool's edge, and he began thinking that he'd spend a good while on his break. Before all that long, however, a feeling stirred him from his relaxation, of something moving in the water by his feet.

Orus opened his eyes and stared into the clouded depths before him. He could see nothing past his legs, and began to wonder if he'd imagined the sensation, but then it returned—something brushed against his foot, as if swimming there at the bottom of the spring.

The knight drew his feet up, holding those depths in a concentrated gaze. Then he saw movement. A dark shape swam by, not a hands-breadth from where his feet were. Leaning closer, he caught a glimpse of what looked like a human hand waving up from the murky depths. It quickly came closer, followed by the emerging form of a woman.

As he reeled back, the woman broke the spring's surface, stretching out with a wide yawn. She wasn't like most human women, however, as he immediately realized. The skin all over her curvaceous body looked flushed, a deep pink color. There was also the fact that she had been under the water for a long time—longer than he had been in this place. As she stood before him, far enough away that the water came up to her buoyant bosom, she looked at him with a smile, and waved in greeting.

How did Orus react?
