Chapter 7

Will Sarah recognise you?
Yes
Eyes snapping open. Sarah struggled against her bonds. Horror appearing on her face. Confusion replaced that, the accident must still be her most recent memory.
Reaching out a hand to calm her, to console her. Panic still fills her wide-eyed gaze. Her chest rises and falls heaving as she gulps deep breaths.
The confusion eases, as Sarah gets a handle on the situation.
"You're in a hospital." you tell her.
Her eyes fix on you, blinking as if she expects you to disappear.
"My Jamie..." your pet name means you relax, just a moment. Closing her eyes, they scrunch up, as she mutters "Hospital." over and over like a mantra. Her breathing slowing as she continues.
"I was in a crash." Her eyes snap open. "I was dying. My legs were trapped." The horror still fresh, the confusion returns, as she sees her sheet covered body
‘You were seriously injured, but you are alive’ you explained.
‘Why am I tied up? Am I disfigured?’
‘We tied you to the bed for your own safety’ explained the doctor. ‘We are not sure whether you are able to control your movements’
Sarah looked at the man who had spoken in confusion. You explained ‘This is Doctor Saunders, Sarah. He saved your life’
‘Can you release me?’
‘Perhaps soon, after we run some more tests. Can you tell me who you are and your date of birth?’
‘I’m Sarah Baker. I was born on February 1975’
The doctor looked at you and you nodded acknowledgement. The date was when Sarah was born.
‘Can you squeeze my finger?’ the doctor asked. Over the next 10 minutes he proceeded to test Sarah’s ability to feel with and manipulate her digits and limbs. She apparently passed with flying colours.
‘So will you release me now?’ Sarah asked, when the doctor had finished writing some notes.
‘Not yet’ said the doctor. ‘Let me explain. Your body was crushed, but we managed to keep your brain alive long enough to do a transplant’
‘A transplant? What sort of transplant’
‘An experimental procedure. A brain transplant’

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
