Chapter 6 by tiger1934 tiger1934

What's next?

Next morning

At 10 am the next morning, you returned to the hospital. The doctor was already in Sarah’s room with a nurse, examining her charts.

‘All Sarah’s brain activity appears very normal. I see no reason we can’t wake her’

‘Is there a risk?’ you asked

‘There is always a risk’ he replied ‘But we have to wake her at some stage. Let’s hope she is coherent and remembers who she is. If you don’t mind I would like to strap her to the bed. I don’t want to risk her trying to get out and having a fall. We are not sure that the synapses between her brain and her limbs are fully connected or they will work the same way as before’

‘Do you mean she will need to learn to walk again?’

‘I don’t know. As far as I am aware, this is the first ever brain transplant. Everything is new’

You gave him permission to strap Sarah down. Whilst he was doing so he told you ‘Sarah had another visitor after you left yesterday. A woman from the Saudi embassy. She was checking on the welfare of one of her citizens. I had to let her into the room to look at Sarah, or should I say Yarah. I told her that Yarah had a significant brain injury and needed to be sedated. I had to promise that I would notify her as soon as Yarah was awake’

‘It seems strange referring to Sarah as Yarah’ you commented.

“It is her name now. We all need to get used to calling her Yarah’

‘What did this woman want?’

‘She was here at the behest of Yarah’s family back in her home country. Undoubtedly they are concerned about the welfare of their daughter. She did not seem impressed that I was a male doctor. But I won’t call her in until after you have had a chance to talk to Sarah and explain the situation’

Shortly after with the aid of the nurse, the doctor injected Sarah with something and shortly after she began to stir.

Will Sarah recognise you?
