Chapter 6 by Torel Torel

Does she help the poor young woman ?

Yes

Alright. Take me to the place where she was taken from and I will do my best to find her. " The girl's eyes lit up with hope at Ciri's words.

" Oh thank you so much. She is the only family I have left. "

Ciri follows the girl who sort reminded her of Triss but more slim and petite and with longer hair. After about a minute of walking they arrived to a small house that was just of the side of the road.

" This is our home. And that's where she was playing. "

Ciri saw the toys that were left on the ground. There was a little square made from sticks on the ground with a doll inside. Ciri gently smiled before it turned into a frown as she started to examine the surroundings. She had to find something that would help her track whoever or whatever took the little girl. Luckily, she was trained by the best witchers on the continent. She noticed faint tracks of large feet that looked very fresh. She followed them for a while, behind the house where they continued into the forest. Then she returned back to the front to inform the girl.

" I found some tracks. Maybe they will lead to whoever has your little sister. "

" I.. I hope so. Please find her... uhmm. I'm sorry. I don't even know your name. "

" Ciri. And I will try. "

" Yes. My name is Zoe. Can I come with you ? "

" No, just in case. If it is a monster, I will be better off fighting it alone. You just stay in the house and I promise I will come back. "

Zoe looked down at the ground with a worried expression. " Okay... "

With that Ciri went back to tracking. Following the marks in the ground she knew she was dealing with some sort of a bipedal creature. Definitely not a human but something that is close to it. She thought of all kinds of possible monsters and only one stood out. It was rare to see them kidnap children but there were such mentions in the books at Kaer Morhen. A gravehag. Sometimes they kidnap children or weak humans and then eat them. She probably saw the girl outside and took it's chance. Let's hope the little one will be okay.

The tracks are soon followed by drops of dirt and the further she goes, the smell of something rotten get stronger and stronger. Ciri comes up on a clearing with a singular tiny shack hidden inside. As she gets closer she starts to hear weird sounds and messed up words, some banging of tools and a very quiet whimper of a small child. It would not be for the best to fight inside as they could injure the little kid if they are not careful. She had to draw the beast out. Her thoughts raced across her mind, gathering every single drop of information about gravehags she could find in there. After that, she was ready to start the fight.

She picked up a small rock that she found on the ground and threw it into the right side of the cabin. All of a sudden it was quiet. After a couple seconds, the gravehag appeared. She stepped out from the door in all her monstrosity. She was about as tall as Ciri, her body looked rotten and she had bones and self made tools around her waist. Ciri waited until her back was turned to her and once she saw her chance she took it. She quietly sprinted out from behind the bush as the gravehag managed to turn around just in time. Instead of a stab, Ciri got in a couple slashes, two into her arm and one in her abdomen. The monster screamed and started frantically running around and waiting for it's chance to attack. She was nimble and fast and now it knew that this is no ordinary person but a strong and dangerous opponent.

The gravehag all of a sudden picked up a large piece of mud from the ground and with surprising strength, threw it straight into Ciri's eyes. She recoiled back but she managed to throw her arm up and block most of the projectile. The monster did not realize this and thinking it had a perfect opportunity to strike, she moved behind Ciri and fired off her tongue towards her back. Without blinking, the arm that was still covering her face flew behind her and with a rapid pirouette, Ciri was facing the gravehag, the tongue caught in her hand. With a quick slash she cut off almost half of the giant slimy tongue as the gravehag screamed in pain and fell back, trying to hold the blood coming out of her mouth.

She started prancing around angrily when in a fit of rage she charged the white haired witcheress. At this point Ciri knew it was over. She dodged two claw strikes and then parried the third one, creating an opening and slashing across the chest of the beast. There was now a massive cut across her torso, blood was spilling at a rapid place. Ciri wanted to waste no time and in a blink of an eye she continued slashing all the key points until the gravehag was dead on the ground.

Ciri looked at the corpse on the ground and then sighed. She sheathed her sword and then looked at the broken house. She opened the rusty door and inside she saw a little girl locked in a cage in the corner to her right. To her left, there was a big pot that hanged on top of a fire and inside water which was boiling at this point. She knew that if she would have arrived minutes later, the little girl would probably be eaten at this point. She kneeled down to the cage and opened it.

" Hey little one. It's okay now. Your sister sent me. " Ciri tried to calm the shaking and scared girl. It took her a couple seconds before she responded.

" Z...Zoe ? "

" Yes. Zoe. Come, I'll take you to her. "

The little girl slowly crawled out of the cage and Ciri picked her up and carried her back home. Firstly as they left the house she covered her eyes so she would not have to look at the dead monster but after that they quietly made their way back to the house.

Zoe was sitting outside and leaning against the front wall of the house. Her red hear covered her face as she waited in complete silence and fear. She slowly lifted her head at a familiar voice.

" Zoe ! " The little girl scrambled out of Ciri's arms and took a running leap at her sister.

" Sophie ! " They both embraced each other as Zoe cried her eyes out from happiness. Meanwhile Ciri just watched from a far, not wanting to interrupt this moment. She waited until Zoe stood up and looked at her, her eyes were red from all the crying.

" Ciri ! Thank you ! " She embraced her as well out of pure joy. She then smiled at Ciri before telling her to wait here and going inside along with her little sister. About a minute after she comes back with a small pouch.

" Here. It's not much but it's all we have. She is everything I have left of my family and I don't know what I would do if I'd lost her as well. "

" No, you need it much more than me. Keep it. " Ciri closed her hand which was holding the pouch and kindly smiled at her.

" Then please stay. At least for dinner or if you want you can stay here for the night. Better than camping outside somewhere. "

She thought to herself and agreed. A dinner sounds nice. Maybe even rest up. It's a long way to Novigrad.
