World's Greatest

It only took a few minutes to find and resolve the intranet issue. Alex had been performing tasks like this for a long time, and he knew the network quite well, so when things went wrong, it was as usually a simple task for Alex to pinpoint the problem.

"There," Alex said, pressing the send button on an email to Jeffery to let him know that he shouldn't have any more interruptions. He knew that he should get back to the baffling reports he was supposed to read, but he wanted to reward himself with a cup of coffee. It was almost break time, anyway, and he could catch up when he got back to his cubical.

Alex's favourite mug had been a gift from his daughter Samantha ten years earlier, when she had still been in high school. World's Best Dad. Yes, he knew it was a cliche, but it still filled his heart up with love. Tina (his wife) and he hadn't done poorly in their lives. Samantha and Joe were doing well starting their careers. Tina and himself had almost paid off the mortgage on their little house, and were satisfied. Yes, that was the word. Satisfied.

They were satisfied with what they had, not needing big changes, not needing fancy things, or big trips, or new experiences. They loved each other, and they loved their lives. If everything stayed the way it was for the rest of their lives, they would continue to be satisfied.

"New mug?"

Alex hadn't noticed Amanda Upton, the short, nerdy woman four cubicals over from his, standing at the coffee counter. She was grinning at him mischievously through her braces.

Alex looked down at his mug, his favourite mug.

World's Best Lay

"What?" he sputtered, staring at the mug. It was the same shape, the same size. He could have sworn that it hadn't said that back at his desk! Was someone pulling a prank on him?

"So?" Amanda said, mischievous grin spreading, "Is it true?"
