William Finds a Ladder

William decided to walk to the end of the hallway, where the remaining working light bulb hung from the ceiling. On his way there, he saw more unmarked, unlocked doors and momentarily wondered if maybe he should check where the doors went to, but decided against it. He could always do it later. Continuing on down the hall, he had a feeling that moving in that direction would be beneficial to him.

Once he made it to the still-working light bulb, he saw that running up the side of the concrete wall was a metal ladder. If this really was a bunker, then perhaps that was the way out. He took a moment to look back in the direction that he came, the path leading back to his lab. It was nothing but darkness. Then he looked up to see where the ladder led to ... but there was nothing but darkness there too.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, William began to climb up the ladder.
