Chapter 4 by Twisted314 Twisted314

What's next?

Where am I?

Among the clothes was a white robe and a dark robe as well as a veil and some socks.

I guessed the white robe was meant to be worn underneath but I decided to simply keep my nightgown on and pulled the dark robe over my head.

I had already explored this tiny room looking through both the large chest, the few books on top of the table and even under the bed coming back blanc.

The books were the least helpful discussing some obscure theological theory I had never heard about and could hardly understand half of without context or actually reading it from the beginning instead of randomly flipping through pages.

The chest on the other hand was slightly more helpful with a bunch of clothes, mostly underwear and socks as well as some candles, a hair brush and a few other miscellaneous items. Half of it was occupied with bedding; sheets, pillow cases and a thicker blanket for cold nights.

The most prominent item had been a bible of sorts containing stories of gods and demons. Fantastical tales I would have thought to be part of a fantasy novel if it wasn’t for the small handwritten notes on the side of some pages adding additional details and thoughts of the owner on rare occasion.

And below the bed I found a crucifix on a silver chain which must have fallen off during her sleep. She might have held onto it while sleeping or put it under the pillow only for it to shift and fall under the bed.

All things considered I was in some kind of old church, maybe a christian school or a monastery. It had been half an hour at-least since I woke up but besides the girl nobody came looking for me.

When I peeked out of the door only a deserted corridor greeted me eerily silent and outside the window I saw a large vineyard further uphill on the right from me while a small vegetable garden stood to left right outside my window.

I couldn’t see far as a forrest obscured my vision but I was sure we were on a hill somewhere as I could see the trees sloping down the further left I looked.

As much as I wanted to climb out the window and run away I decided to go for the more civilised approach for now. I was clearly not locked up and neither was I treated badly for the lack of visible injuries or shackles.

The girl didn’t seem to harbour any ill intent either when she intruded simply telling me to hurry up.

So I excluded kind-napping for now, not that it could explain how I suddenly woke up in a different body.

Having exhausted all other venues I decided it was time for some reconnaissance.

Which is why I was currently struggling putting on that unwieldy long robe.

The first rule of reconnaissance was blending in and this not being a dream or at-least I was 70% sure at this point that it wasn’t, I thought better of it than going around in a nightgown as snug and comfy as it was.

Struggling some more I had a hard time figuring out where to put my hands through. I had never worn something this long and was definitely doing something wrong. Being quite top heavy all of a sudden didn’t help either.

Maybe I should have taken the nightgown off after all, nevertheless, after a bit of trial and error I eventually managed to get the robe on.

“Hahh” I let out a relieved sigh looking down at myself. I hadn’t really payed attention to it but that girl had been wearing a similar robe. Knowing better now I recognised it as a nun habit. With the veil on top of my head and the crucifix around my neck my disguise was done.

“What was it again?”

“Something about lessons?”

It hadn’t even been that long but being both surprised, sleepy and distracted otherwise I had hardly listened to what she had said.

“No, it had been readings or something,” but I had no clue where to go so I decided to explore the corridor for now and maybe there would be someone who might be able help me or at-least tell me where we are.
