Chapter 57

I don't know if he even gets xp from this.
Well, we won't get to find out yet anyway.
The first thug grimaced as he looked at his comrade on the ground. "I hope you know what you are getting yourself into, crazy bastard."
I let out a large sigh, "Is this where you tell me you're part of some terrifying gang or your boss is super strong or something?"
The remaining thug who had turned around chimed in, "Th-that's right! We work for Kyle himself!"
I started at him with a deadpan expression before facepalming, "Well, if you want to go and report to him he's just down the road that way, didn't leave too long ago." I pointed with my other hand down the road. "Are we done now?"
As the second thug began to speak again, the first one smacked the back of his head. "Very well, but don't you think this is over and dealt with."
I shouted to them as the walked away and I turned around, "Trust me, it would be better for you if it is."
While I had turned away from them, I was not confident they would be smart enough to actually leave. Sure enough, it seemed like they were coming back for a moment until I realized they were just dragging their **** friend away.
With those idiots gone, I slowly approached my supplies pile. I could tell the creature was still within, and as Kyle's men had suggested, I could feel magic emanating from it. However, unlike those buffoons I knew that it is a bad idea to try and corner and catch an animal if you want something from it. So, I activated my Spirit.
As the mask, robes, and wrappings came off of my body, I gave the Spirit a command. "Make sure the creature in the supplies does not leave this area. If someone tries to take it, stop them with non-lethal ****. If it tries to leave on its own, simply block it or carefully apprehend it." The Spirit gave a nod and the clothing formed its body, affirming its understanding of my orders.
With that done, I again took stock of my new property. I paced around, figuring out the amounts of space I wanted to fill and what I should leave as empty space. After a very long time of deliberations that got nowhere, I decided to just make an outline of a base foundation that I could build from.
I walked in a circle around the lot, using growth magic to make the plants form an outline of my idea. I liked it well enough, a large central chamber with a room on either side, and a somewhat small back yard. I liked the yard idea because of course a god of growth should have some form of garden or such within their church, however with it being a back yard I could allow it to theoretically become more wild than the average garden would be.
After settling on a very basic layout for the floor shape, I looked back to check on my Spirit. It was of course standing motionless by the resource pile, staring towards the gap that the creature was hiding within. I gave it a salute, which it did not acknowledge due to its focus and unemotive state, before deciding I should call it a day on construction.
I had gotten a base plan down, but I had never been taught the finer points of architecture and construction, so it would be best to wait for more manpower and the professionals. That was a rule I had lived by, that there are experts in every field, and that they most certainly know more than you in their respective environment. Therefore, there is no shame to be had in utilizing their skill.
I decided I should head back to the tavern to catch the party up on everything, and show them that I had not in fact been stabbed and killed in an alleyway like they may possibly have been fearing. As one last act before I left, I made sure to grow some moss within the hole so that the creature would potentially be more comfortable. I was not going to be an animal abuser; I knew very well there was nothing to be gained from that. 'One fucking dog, I will make sure that none of my subordinates do anything like that again. I am not loosing an entire empire to ONE FUCKING DOG a second time.'
With my lovely reminiscing over, I left the mostly abandoned street and made my way back to town square. The life had somewhat returned to the city after the Normn brothers left. People walked the streets, and some stalls had been put up around the square. I scoffed to myself as I thought about it, 'What failures of leaders they are, for their presence to shut down their people's operations instead of promoting them. Soon enough they shall see what a true leader can bring.'
With that last mocking internal remark towards the Normn children, I opened the door to the tavern, not expecting much of excitement inside.
Is he correct in his expectations?
