Week 2 Day 5: Greg offers to go hunting

The day had barely started, but the weight of the world already pressed down on Noah’s shoulders. He stood in the living room, staring out the grimy window at the horizon, his mind running in circles. The house was well fortified, but he knew that the more time they spent hiding, the more **** they became. He had been hoarding supplies, fixing the house, and making sure Olivia was safe—but there was always something more to do, and it never felt like enough.

He heard the floor creak behind him, and without turning, he knew it was Greg. His presence was unmistakable—heavy and menacing, even when not in sight.

“I want to go hunting today,” Greg said, his voice calm and even, though there was an edge to it that made Noah’s stomach tighten. “Instead of scavenging. We can get more food this way, not to mention fresher.”

Noah’s fingers tightened around the edge of the window frame, the splintering wood digging into his skin. He hesitated, the thought of letting Greg go out without him settling like a weight in his chest. He didn’t trust the man completely—he never had. There was always something about him that felt... off. His smiles, the way he watched Olivia, the way he seemed to always be hiding something.

But at the same time, Noah knew he couldn’t keep Greg on a leash forever. They needed food, and hunting was a necessary part of their survival. The problem was, if Noah wasn’t with Greg, he’d be alone with Olivia. And he couldn’t shake the thought that Greg might see this as an opportunity to get too close to her.

“I’m not sure,” Noah said, his voice low. He turned to face Greg, his brows furrowing. “We’re doing fine scavenging. We need to get whatever we can before they are taken by others, or perish on the shelves. The animals can wait."
