Walk

You are barely five minutes in when Emilia looks off in the distance for landmarks.

“Oh wow I didn’t realize how long of a walk this is, I always just went with friends after classes finished”.

You chuckle at her playfully. You’re the one who just finished a full day of manual labour.

“It’s a really nice day for a walk at least. I had to go bring back sheep who got out during the storm, and let me tell you that makes this seem like a vacation”.

She looks shocked, putting her hand to her mouth for a moment.

“You we’re outside during that? What the hell were you thinking? Shouldn’t your dad have done that?”

You are quick with a response.

“He was gathering the horses, and they get a lot further, a lot faster”.

She nods in agreement.

The two of you continue in idle conversation for nearly an hour before reaching the river. You talk about her family, school, her goals now, and how she is considering leaving soon.

You were right, it was a good day for a walk.
