Chapter 3 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

Let the adventure begin!

Waking up, to grass and mush

As I slowly became aware of my senses, it became clear I was lying on the ground. As I opened my eyes, there was a strange floating square in my vision, that, after squinting a few times, I became able to read.

Welcome, please enter your name:

I looked at it puzzled before I remembered what had happened. That’s right, I was supposed to be a monster now! I looked down at myself only to be greeted by the form of a nude human. I was confused at first before remembering that I took an ability that allowed me to masquerade as a “normal person”. I had chosen the polymorph option, so this must simply be it in effect.

I considered what to enter into the window, as I felt my old name would no longer fit me. For the time being, I pushed it to my side, finding I could interact with it, though it would stay in the same location in reference to me no matter how I moved, and would be visible even when inside of objects.

I looked around, at last taking in my surroundings. I was in a forest, judging by the much brighter area in one direction, near the edge of one. Around me was plentiful plant life and fungi. As I inspected my surroundings, I found that I could see each plant around me actively growing in real time, which had to be the effect of Pure Land at play, with my drastic bonuses to healing and life magic.

That reminded me, I still needed to check if my plan actually worked. Aside from my plan relating to the Cleric class, I had heavily invested in healing/life magic, in the hopes of finding some loopholes to battles I may be facing. Sure, it would be nice to heal swathes of servants at once, but that’s not what I was going for.

I did some trial and error trying to figure out how magic worked, which took an embarrassing amount of time. That payed off when I finally managed to unleash some life magic on a small shrub, causing it to grow into a fully grown pine right before my eyes.

Now satisfied with my basic magic without having to waste what could be my only chance at a name, I adventured forth, looking for a more… lively test subject.

It took about an hour, judging by the sun, before I encountered my first living being of this world. It wasn’t anything too impressive, it looked like a normal wolf to me. I did my best to creep up upon the creature, though that line of thought was short lived as it quickly turned towards me. I cursed as I realized I was upwind of it, and quickly focused on channeling my mana.

As the wolf began to charge me, I prayed (to my own luck, more than any of the gods I had met, despite being a priest) as I unleashed concentrated healing mana upon the wolf. At first nothing seemed to happen, aside from it recoiling from the blast, but as it moved to approach me, it suddenly coughed. I watched in sadistic glee as I saw my plan work, the wolf howling in pain as its bones grew in an agonizing fashion. Its howl was cut short as it began to **** on its blood, and its legs gave out from the new weight of horrid growths forming upon it.

I laughed to myself at the genius of my plan. This wasn’t a magical attack, it was healing, just unfiltered, far too powerful healing. The same power that brought growth to plants too grew the wolf, but its form was not made for it, causing its current horrifying condition.

“Moged-“ was the sound it made as it hacked up a huge amount of blood, before wheezing out its last noise, “ruu~n”.

“Moged-Ruun huh?” I thought aloud. “I quite like the sound of that.” I let out a twisted laugh and smile as I entered my new name into the floating box.

Welcome, Moged-Ruun!

The window said, before it was quickly replaced with something new.
