"Us," Ethan answers, feeling the weight of that one heavy word.
"Ah." Layla clicks her tongue. "I was worried you were going to say that..."
Ethan starts to speak, but the words catch in his throat, warping into something else. "Huh?"
Sighing softly, slender shoulders bouncing, Layla shakes her head. "Ethan. I may be old, but I'm not dumb. The topic of 'us' can only lead to one possible destination."
He doesn't have to wrack his brain hard to get onto her train of thought. "Ah..."
"Ethan," she smiles, "I understand. I'm old enough to be your mother, and there are plenty of young ladies your own age in town. We had fun, but maybe you're right and we should..." she shrugs slightly, letting the end part go unsaid.
She thinks Ethan wants to end things. Whatever 'things' are between them Ethan is unsure.
Now Ethan needs to decide if this is what he wants.
