Urge
Hot sunlight kisses and warms your cold skin as you emerge from the shade provided by the many surrounding trees. Exhaling softly, you take a moment to appreciate the rare second of peace and solitary you've found. It seems as though ever since that pivotal evening you've barely had a moment to yourself. It's almost strange that something you once dreaded would now be so desired but you've always heard the grass is greener on the other side. Still, you worry that might be the case for others as well since you've become aware of a noticeable distance increasing between you and Aden. You wish you could blame it entirely on him, however, you're fully mindful of the fact you've contributed as much as he towards that growing rift.
Trying your best to push these uncomfortable thoughts to the back of your mind, you instead focus on the rare pleasant day you're fortunate enough to savor. The one class you had today let out early, resulting in a pleasant walk back to the Zodiak House. It still feels odd commuting back to it as though it was your permanent place of residence. It seems so long since you've had such a luxury, as even before your car was towed it still felt like temporary lodgings. But even now you're fully aware these accommodations are just as temporary as any of the last places you called 'home.'
Sighing audibly, you continue to follow the unofficial but well beaten path back to the fraternity. Just as you're nearing the halfway point you notice someone just up ahead. A light blush quickly envelopes your cheeks when you recognize distinctive white and black hair. Slowing your pace, you quickly contemplate your options as you're not entirely sure how you feel about crossing paths with the man again. You haven't seen him since that morning and had been hoping he might have just been passing through. You're not sure why you're so adverse to running into him, however, you feel as though you should listen to your instincts. Just before you can slow your pace even further, your own ineptitude intervenes causing you to stumble over seeming nothing.
Your loud gasp consequently alerting the man of your presence. Wincing in pain and annoyance, you teeter precariously on one foot while awkwardly bending to clasp at the other. The discomfort is enough to cause you to momentarily forget about your unwanted companion. Groaning lightly, you reach out for something to steady yourself and are surprised when your hand connects with something warm and firm. Straightening up in surprise, you quickly lose your balance and stumble back.
"Careful." A resonant voice mutters in your ear as you’re effortlessly caught by able arms.
Your blush returns tenfold as you're instantly aware of the only person present to have been able to assist you. You try in vain to pull away, however, the moment any weight is placed on your injured foot a wave of pain floods through. Reluctantly, you're **** to lean back into his embrace.
"Can you help me back to the house?" You inquired, somewhat chagrined to have found yourself in such a predicament.
"Sure." Kyr's warm breath brushes against the nape of your neck when he speaks. "I don't think you can walk though."
Before you can reply an arm slides down your side and slips behind your thighs. You let out an audible gasp when you're brusquely swept up into the mans arms.
"This isn't what I had in mind." You mumble dejectedly as you turn your head away from the young man.
"Sorry, I'm not sure what Aden would do in this situation." The man retorts under his breath as he shifts your weight in his arms.
"What?" You can't help looking back at him in confusion. "That's not what I meant."
Your brow furrows lightly as you tentatively glance at the man and note the irritated expression across his annoyingly attractive face. It seems as though it's some type of requirement to be almost extraordinarily good looking to join the house. Dismissing this from your thoughts, you turn back away from the man for a moment before speaking again.
"Thank you for helping."
Kyr remains silent, seeming to mull your words over as approaches the house. You find yourself growing increasingly curious as to what he might be thinking or why he hasn't replied. He doesn't seem to be a man of very many words, a rare commodity in the house. You decide to embrace the stillness rather than continue to press the man as you approach the entrance. The silence is finally broken when the man reaches the door only to find it looked.
"Do you have keys?"
"What, you don't have any?" You exclaim in surprise before sighing and nodding. "Yeah, in my back pocket."
Just as you go to reach for them, you feel your weight shifted again before a hand slides along the back of your waist and into your pocket. Before you can react he's already pulled away and begins jamming random keys into the lock. Sighing again, you reach down and pick out the correct key, your fingers brushing against his in the process. Thankfully, at this point you can likely blame the flush on your face as a result of your injury. Though you've done your best to ignore it, you can't help wincing slightly at the pain from your now swollen ankle. Before you're tempted to break the silence the door is unlocked and you're brought inside.
