Turn Down

Yulia was relieved that the voices had changed their minds. "I've changed my mind..." she announced and the Tarantula girl gave a relieved sigh while the two scorpions looked mildly disappointed.

"No, duel then? Fine coward... What about our previous offer?" Cathy asks.

"I'll be turning it down as well. I'll try my luck with the desert," Yulia explains and both of the scorpions huff.

"Should have known a weakling like you wouldn't have the guts," Scorpion 1 taunts.

"It's hardly the first time we've run into one of her kind... Losers the lot of them. Only good for food and breeding, they're worse even than the wasps," Cathy adds.

Yulia swallows, "are they trying to rile me? I'm not going to fall for it. I hardly care about their opinion of me," she mutters.

"I'm sure she'll be back anyway. We'll have our chance to breed her," Scorpion 1 adds and Yulia sighs.

"I have one question before I go... Has there been any... Strange monsters around here, probably showed up just recently?" she asked.

"The Attractor!" the Tarantula yells and both scorpions hiss at her.

"Quiet idiot!" Cathy yells and the Tarantula ducks her head.

"The Attractor?" Yulia asks and Cathy scowls.

"A gangly figure in rotted clothes, it carries a lantern, it's light paralyzes. It does horrible things to those it paralyzes," Cathy admits.

"Steals our eggs as well," Scorpion 1 adds.

"Right out of our bodies," Cathy nods and all three of them look uncomfortable, the Tarantula and both scorpions, the wasp seems unbothered, though it's unclear if she's capable of showing emotion.

Yulia thinks about it and then nods and turns to leave.

"Come back soon, I look forward to filling that butt of yours!" Cathy calls and Yulia hurries her steps, quickly leaving the oasis.

The path through the desert is arduous, every step stings her flesh as her suit rubs against the sunburn covering her body, but at least it keeps her safe from the heat. She takes a drink from a water jug as she goes and soon indeed finds herself back at the camp. She feels relief that it was indeed the camp, she had been worried she was chasing a mirage. After that she realizes she has to cross more desert to again reach the temple and find out what happened to her friends.

The crossing is again terrible, but there is some comfort in knowing for a fact she was heading to a destination this time. She decides not to drink, expecting to be able to drink from the fountain upon arriving at her destination.

She does indeed reach the temple and descends the stairs, hope flowering in her heart. When she reaches the bottom of the stairs she's greeted by a mostly empty room and the statue towering above her. A second later though she hears Hess' voice.

"Oh you're back! I worried you were dead," Hess says and Yulia turns, seeing Hess again hidden beside the door, seemingly having been poised to strike until realizing it was Yulia.

"Where are my friends?" Yulia asks.

"They were injured, poisoned, they wouldn't have survived without medical treatment, they were taken deeper into the temple to be treated," Hess admits.

"I'm going after them," Yulia says moving behind the statue.

"Wait... As I said it's dangerous down there, the others are... in need, struggling with their desires," Hess says, "they'll attack you," she adds.

"I know, but I have to find my friends," Yulia starts and then narrows her eyes, "Wait, but... What about my friends then?"

"The others wouldn't have attacked them while they were injured, but after treatment..." Hess says looking nervous.

"Are you saying your friends might be **** mine as we speak?!" Yulia yells and Hess winces and then nods weakly.

"It's not their fault!" Hess argues, but Yulia has already turned away.

"I'm going to save them," Yulia declares.

"Wait... You should rest, bathe, be prepared before going down there!" Hess declares and Yulia hesitates.

"Every second I waste your people are possibly doing horrible things to my friends..." Yulia mutters, but she does wait, her body shaking with fear and anger.
