Tryst (The end)

"A beautiful night isn't it", Karl surprised Edana with a sudden appearance. He leaned next to her on the railing of the balcony and gazed thoughtfully into the distance at the huge tracts of land, stretched across the valley. Elven and goblin bonfires, together with seeds of human civilization, burned in the woods, creating a wonderful, serene view.

"Why did you lie?", Engel refused to look at the boy. She was still furious with him, "You didn't need a rescue."

"It wasn't a lie, it was just a half-truth", Kraus folded his hands into the mill, like a skillful politician. Karl's expression was so indifferent and blank that it terrified Edana, who was observing him in secrecy, "I really can't take us home and the maid really is making my life difficult... but..."

"But what? What excuse will you make up this time?", the demoness could not stand it anymore and finally turned to the Lord of Dungeons. Tears pressed to the corners of her eyes, but evaporated from the rising temperature of the body before reaching the surface of the cheeks.

"I don't know if I want to come back, whether any of us should come back", Karl straightened his neck, still showing no emotions, "We are all noone in the old world. We participated in the rat race for student loans, we strived for **** entertainment that would obscure the view of our everyday routine. Our past life was not life at all, just simple vegetation."

"And that's your argument?", Edana drew nearer the boy and took his palm, despite her own nature. She wanted to hear him yell at her again, how despises her, but he still remained aloof to everything, even to her, "Do you choose the path of the weakling just because you are suddenly endowed with godlike power? Can't you see what you're becoming?"

"Yes, I am aware of what you are implying. I know the Calhoun's experiment just like you do. We followed the same field of study", Kraus squeezed the girl's hand for the first time showing any affection, "When you have everything, you stop trying. When you are safe, you stop developing."

"That's why you know I'm not gonna let you do what you are planning", Engel brought her face closer to his. The tension grew, "I will not let you get bitter, I will not allow you to stop being the one who I always... ador... abused."

"I count on it. That you would continue to be my players and tried to stop me, that you will keep rolling the dices, so we would not wither", Edana saw flames in the eyes of the game master, the same as when he started a new RPG session, or when he was dreadfully pissed at her, "Who else would be better suited to be my opponent than you? After all, I hate no one more."

"I also hate you with all my heart", the lips of the demoness cut into those of the Overlord. They kissed fervently, full of life and passion, everything what the omnipotence would take from them. The world stopped briefly for the lovers, giving another reason to push forward blindly, "I will free everyone from your control, slay the maid and ultimately tear your stupid notebook to shreds... but from tomorrow."

The couple fell to the ground in an embrace, united in a loving rapture. Today and for the rest of their days, they will always be the eternal enemies and paramours simultaneously. Like a good and evil, like woman and man, like light and the lack of it, they will be for each other, identical as two sides of the same coin.
