Chapter 7 by TaleSpinner TaleSpinner

What's next?

Traveling and making a bird friend, and the booth

Jesse was feeling like he was on Cloud 9 right now... Technically it was Cloud 7 as his 6 other experiments either didn't last long enough, were too intangible, and we didn't talk about Cloud 5. That was what Jesse was traveling on though, a fluffy white cloud drifting through the skies at over a hundred miles an hour with PLENTY of different types of conditional barrier spells to keep anything inside from being constantly being blasted by wind or roasted by the sun or accidentally falling off. Even if he didn't find a good area he could theoretically build his wizard castle up on the cloud and maybe put some sort of illusion spell on it when there weren't any other clouds in the sky. Currently other than trying to just look out at the scenery ever so often Jesse was trying to remake the Mana Vein spell since the current closest mana Vein to him was... himself. A generic scan of the area was nice, but he wasn't about to just absorb all the mana veins inside of civilized society. He was going to go out to the wilds where monsters and some tribes still lay and setup there and his Mana Vein scan was too local to get him any good information out in the wilds. So all that was left for Jesse to do wa-

"Excuse me sir, Sorcerer? Mind if I landed here for a rest?" asked a feminine yet non-human voice. A little bit like if a woman had a little bit of helium. Jesse turned to see a Harpy courier had landed on his cloud. She had a few packages on her. The woman with eagle talons, and long wings attached to her arms was slim and was min-maxed for strength to weight ratio along with minimal air drag but being a Courier she probably used some mana to keep herself airborne.

That bit of non-human people anatomy description out of the way Jesse said "No, feel free... Wasn't expecting anyone to be... this high up."

"Peh, Some land Sorcerer just learn some flying spell? None of ya humans ever look up into the sky THAT much." The harpy then started unloading her burdens and stretching her wing arms a bit "Still this is going what a hundred or so miles an hour. That's a respectable pace for not needing to really steer where you going?"

"Me? Just kinda going to the wilds and settling somewhere... actually I should probably try to practice that... Combined Spell Cloud 7, Summon Advanced Shelter" and then the Cloud the Sorcerer and Harpy was on expanded and then a two story house was generated with magic.

The Harpy just looked and asked "So... when you said settling was this a cabin in the middle of no where or like a citi-state. Cause if you can poof out clouds like this I can put the word out to a number of Harpies if you need a population."

"Wha?"

"My people are a bit nomadic, but that's mostly as most cities made by terrestrials don't really have the infrastructure for us. Our legs aren't made for walking long distances, and it's not easy trying to lift off and land if your trying to move a few hundred feet. But if your just poofing magic clouds and entire structures into existence... and if you can make the format to be a bit more Harpy inclusive then you'll have a loyal population."

"Well the clouds themselves aren't the most self-sustaining, but... I guess I could probably do that... if I know what I'm doing." Jesse didn't hate the idea of at least catering a little bit to Harpies. Now that he thought of it there were underwater civilizations and plenty terrestrial, but nothing for the people of the air. "How about we go inside my little house here and talk about what could be changed to adapt?"

"Things are spaced a bit too far apart, the floors maybe a more solid rock so our talons don't scratch it all up, and the design itself could be either more compact or much larger so we could either walk less or just fly some places. Also the stairs are fine, but it may also be good to let the windows be used similarly to doors since we can fly and being able to enter or exit at ANY floor is nice." The harpy had a lot of little nit picks that Jesse wasn't sure was a Harpy gripe and not a Naomi gripe. Her name was Naomi by the way. After being fed a light but delicious meal Naomi said "I need to get moving, can still move faster than this cloud. This thing is going to be moving the same direction at a constant speed right?"

"Yeah?" Jesse said

"Great, I'll be finishing up this delivery. Mind if I told some other Harpies about this whole maybe city-state plan?" Naomi said as she pulled out a phone of her own and seemed to be putting in a number of details onto some sorta map calculator?

"Maybe we'll call it a town or neighborhood, not sure about the scale of a city-state yet. So maybe only a few friends? I was planning on trying to set up a gate to and from my home town." Naomi gave me a thumbs up with her clawed feathery hand and after having prepped herself and her cargo dove off the cloud. That left Jesse to do what he wanted... all alone on the cloud... actually...

Jesse entered his cloud house and crafted a new room in it that was more of a science looking chamber. It was powered completely with magic, but it had a door a glass like crystal interface, and buttons to make selections. Jesse had been curious what it was like to be a Harpy just so he could get a feel himself of any inconveniences or clever ideas he may feel out if he had the body of one, but... Then he realized that he'd want to try that with more races, and in the end he kinda wanted to make an "Empathy Machine" that he could use even if he somehow lost use of his magic. Then came further things added on with spells that were starting to combine and overlap such as "Create/Edit Interface" which he had combined with his "Information - Self" spell to let the relatively small room display what information the person currently had

Name: Jesse Winter

Age: 18

HP: 10100/10100

MP... he then gave himself an "Edit spell enchantment" spell so it just listed his name and age. He then sighed and enchanted the machine with the spell he had created "Alter Species - People" and like that there was a new button to select a change and the Information spell also updated to include
Species: Human

With interest Jesse tried changing the Species to Harpy or something, but it wouldn't and he got a sort of understanding when he examine the inner workings with another spell he crafted, because the 50 mp cost for making a spell meant nothing to him at this point. He may be able to cast Alter Species and turn into any species he could imagine, but this machine would have to learn by example. He then added in Alter Age and Alter Sex so he could potentially experience other species sexual dimorphism and aspects at different parts of their life cycles. Jesse was curious so he hit the Alter Sex option and that spell was a lot more straight forward than Alter Species and as Jesse's expanding tits told... her... the machine worked, although it still used her for a battery. Jesse blushed a bit in this body, and before anyone could see or notice she pushed the sex button again and sighed in relief as his dick asserted itself back into reality again. This next part would determine a bit about what he could make... and whether or not he could enchant a cloud to stay permanently. He placed some millions of mana into making this room have a mana pool, and absorbing ambient mana and generating some itself. That did make Jesse feel a bit mana drained, but as he examined his creation it's mana was increasing at a dozen points a minute. A lot better than he had initially, and considering conjuring food was literally making nothing out of something alter sex and age actually weren't THAT expensive. They dealt with complex things sure, but it was more rearranging than just making stuff out of nothing. Heck sometimes the spells could generate mana from turning something into nothing and store that mana. As long as it wasn't spammed it should work perfectly well for day to day uses by one or even a few individuals. Jesse felt rather satisfied with himself, as he started to try to figure out a way to magic up a wifi signal.
