Putting his name back with faltering hands she opens her mouth to speak. "Tom," she announces, purposefully not looking at him before she gives him his dare. Nicole hoped that her ulterior motives for this would go unnoticed and, luckily for her, they did for the most part. She noticed you looking at her quizzically out of the corner of her eye but she tactically ignored that as her eyes drifted unstoppably back to Tom. When he meets her gaze with a smug look Nicole realizes that at least one person probably knows the real reason for her dare, but it was too late to go back now. Hopefully none of the others, especially not John, would figure out why she really wanted Tom to peel off his skintight top.
Nicole's dare had made you raise an eyebrow, but as to her true reasoning you were none the wiser. You had just assumed that she was taking Tom's concern about "catching his ****" too seriously, and that her caring nature was forcing her to be unnecessarily kind to Tom. The only other man in the room, Matt, was equally as ignorant as you. "Wanna give me another rubdown now Nicole?" he asks, and she has to ball her hands into fists to avoid taking him up on that offer. "Alright then," he shrugs, turning his back on her and stretching like he just got up from a nap. When they break eye contact Nicole lets out a breath she didn't even know she had been holding as she suddenly becomes aware of her heart's rapid drumbeat in her chest. Silently, she scolds herself for getting so carried away over Tom of all people. "I must have drank too much," she thinks, even though she's barely sipped her vodka and coke in the past half an hour.
This whole thing from beginning to end had made you roll your eyes so often and so hard that they were getting sore. You couldn't believe that Tom thought he was such hot shit just because he had abs, and you really couldn't believe how the girls were validating him. Even Miranda and Nicole, two ladies who you know hate Tom and you thought were completely sensible, are staring at him with unhidden interest. "Is a six pack and a broad chest really all it takes to shut a girl's brain off?" you think bitterly. Glancing to your side you see Matt, still hypnotized by his crushes tits. "Maybe the right chest can turn anyone's brain off," you add to yourself, folding your arms with a sigh as you wait for Tom to stop showboating and draw a damn name.
Tom even manages to make picking up the hat from the table look cocky and annoying to you as he finally scoops it up and sits back down. "Let's see who I get to have some fun with," he mutters, stirring the hat in his lap. Nicole smacks the back of her own hand when she catches herself hoping that he draws her name. "He's like a zoo animal Nicole. Fun to look at, not to touch," she rationalizes, settling her tumultuous feelings with a deep breath in. So long as Tom doesn't draw her, she should be fine.
