Chapter 5 by Middaywisher Middaywisher

What does she decide?

To go for it

Pyrrha bit down on her lower lip as her gaze drifted between the tree-filled valley below and the route that led back toward the dormitories. She honestly didn’t know which choice was less appealing. On the one hand, heading back to the dorms heavily risked her getting caught (and her plight going viral or turned into a meme in the worst-case scenario) and would put her a little behind in her combat-oriented class while she waited for replacement gear. On the other hand, she ran the risk of bumping into Grimm while unarmed down there… but, in theory, she shouldn’t have to be down there too long. She knew the approximate direction her gear should have gone, so the only question really was how far her semblance threw them.

Pyrrha shook her head. Whatever her choice would be, she was taking too long to decide. The longer it took her to decide, the more people who would be released from class and hanging around school. And, the later it got, the more active the Grimm would become. Standing there wasn’t much of option for her either, she knew, because sooner or later someone would happen upon her. Looking toward the sun, high in the sky, Pyrrha made her decision. As long as she didn’t dawdle, she should be safe down in the valley, relatively speaking.

With that decided, Pyrrha peered over the cliffside, trying to come up with an effective landing strategy. Last time, she relied on her shield, but that wasn’t an option now. After a couple moments, the gears in her head started turning. On her left side, not too far below her was a young tree growing from the mountain side, and farther below that she saw an incline she could use as a ledge. If she stuck the landing, she would be able to get halfway down the mountain with ease. From the ledge, she should be able to jump her way into the nearest trees without any cause for worry. She only had to stick the landing. It didn’t look so bad. She has handled worse before, this wouldn’t be a problem. She backed up, getting ready for a running start when she heard the familiar sound of metal clanking together. Her greaves were bundled at her feet again and she found herself faced with a conundrum. Did she want to risk the jump with her greaves on? As they were, she would have to hold them up to avoid tripping over them. Could she still make the jump with them on?

What is she going to do?
