Coffee break!

Time for some girl talk

Eva and Lexi were sitting at a small cafe, lattes and pastries in front. They caught up about the news and work before the conversation eventually drifted to Lexi's favorite topic - talking about men.

"Did you see that new trainee in Iris's department?", Lexi asked. "He's hot, and funny. You gotta get a load of that guy sometime."

"I bet you won't mind taking his load.", retorted Eva cheekily, making Lexi slap her playfully across her arm.

"Any weekend plans?", Lexi asked. "I was thinking we could do a brunch with the girls, and-"

"Um, I might be busy. Have a thing on Saturday night.", Eva interjected.

It was Lexi's turn to tease her. "Oooh, 'a thing', huh? Is that what we're calling a tinder hookup now? What's his name? Can I see a pic?"

Eva laughed. "It's not that. Uh, you don't happen to know anything about the Imperial Gala, do you?"

Lexi looked at her like she had asked the most obvious question in the history of questions. "Of course I know about it! Don't you remember my insta story from last year?! Ohmygod, the dresses that I saw! So pretty!", she began gushing, her eyes virtually turning into little hearts.

Eva eyebrows shot up. She felt silly - while she had been researching security loopholes and hidden entryways, she had completely overlooked the most obvious way to gain entry into the event: Be rich. Which Lexi certainly was, thanks to her father, a wealthy investment banker.

"Uh, do you think you can get me an invite? I sooooo want to go this year.", she asked sweetly.

Lexi was immediately suspicious. "Whoa whoa whoa, hold on there. Last year, I asked you to come with me and you said no. So why the sudden interest? What is it you're not telling me?"

Eva debated about lying, but decided that if she was to ask her friend for a favor, the least she could do was be honest with her. She told Lexi about the note the stranger had left her.

"Babe, you've become obsessed with this person. You need to let it go.", said Lexi with a concerned look.

"How can you say that, after what happened at the mall?"

"Look, I agree with you about some things. We both lost our clothes in suspicious fashion, I admit, but I never saw anyone near or around you. There is no evidence this person even exists."

Eva felt anger rising inside her. "We're not going over this again. There is someone, and they represent a serious danger to the entire organization. I have to stop them, and this gala is the only lead I have."

Lexi thought about it for a second, before finally replying. "Okay, you know what - fine. You go there to find this mysterious stranger, I go there to look at pretty dresses and flirt with hot guys. We both win!", she beamed.

"Thanks.", replied Eva. "You're a lifesaver, babe."

Lexi went into overdrive. "Not so fast. I've seen the basic stuff you wear to the club. There's no way you're going dressed like that. I know a designer, and I'll make some calls right now. There's not much time, but I can get you something at least custom fitted, if not fully-"

She practically dragged Eva off her chair as both of them left the cafe.

The night before the gala
