Thurgilla Goldengut

You start as Thurgilla Goldengut, a young, 62-year-old rogue dwarf. Born as the first child into a locksmith family in Altheim, where the family business has spawned across at least 27 generations. You aren't at the top of dwarf society, yet society wouldn't be at the top without workers like you. As firstborn, you had the privilege to learn all that it takes to become a locksmith and carry on the family tradition. Expect, you never really cared about said tradition... You had always been more ambitious than being a simple locksmith, no matter how much your father bragged about the importance of your job in the Dwarven Kingdom.

Your ambitions soon materialized by using your lock-making (and naturally, lockpicking) skills for some personal gains. In your early teenage years, you had broken into your friend's houses for fun to scare them at night. Later on, as your talents and skills sharpened, you weren't doing the old pranks anymore, stealing small things from time to time, from the dwarfs working in the gold and emerald mines. You called it "a fair redistribution of goods". Some called you "goldengut", for stealing from people in higher achelons of society too, who could have had you killed in a second. And you were quite proud of it. Your father? Less so. Especially when the guards caught you pickpocketing the head captain's son, to steal his diamond-plated wedding ring, which he was carrying to his fiancé, to propose to her. You never liked the guy, nor the girl, so stealing from them and seeing the face of the guy when he kneels in front of her and can't find the ring would have been priceless. However, by doing this, you have only gotten yourself a good beating and a few days in the dungeon.

You have stopped with your "hobby" for some time then, but later you just couldn't resist the urge to steal something shiny again. Your later, more successful deeds have only strengthened your resolve to make one last theft to be able to retire at the relatively young age of 55, which is just barely after "teenage" for dwarfs. You have chosen the king's treasure to be your target. Getting to it was easy, getting in? Way easier. The way out with the king's crown and your pockets full of golden coins wasn't as easy... Halfway out of the palace, you were spotted by some guards, giving chase, but you eventually managed to avoid them. When you got home and your family saw all the stuff you had relocated, they went outright mad at you. Your father especially demanding that you return all the stolen things to the king or he'll drag you there himself. While trying to fruitlessly persuade him to keep the gold, somebody knocked on the door. The guards have found you, following the occasionally lost gold coins to your neighborhood. Now, there was nowhere left to run, you had been cornered. Your father asked you to take responsibility, but you weren't brave enough. Instead, you dropped the crown, fled to your room as the guards flooded into your home. Your father tried to explain the situation, but he wasn't asked to. Everybody was taken away, except for you, as you have managed to get out through a window and watch the calamity from afar. Your whole family had been found guilty of treason and theft, with the crown on the floor as clear evidence. The king himself ordered them all, your parents, siblings, all to be hanged in front of the palace. You too, but you haven't been apprehended.

You fled the city, evading capture by the dwarfs ever since, promising not to return to the Dwarven Kingdom, and especially not to Altheim ever again. You have never given up on your lockpicking and "redistributing" hobby, relieving people of their prized possessions everywhere your journey has taken you.
