Chapter 58 by Duskford Duskford

What do they find there?

They find nothing

Zack led them to the corner where he and Victoria found the bear costumes, but to his surprise, it was empty.

“I swear it was here!” He tried to explain himself to the others.

Colin grinned. “Told you that it was weird.”

“Maybe we can search on this place?” Chloe suggested.

Zack shook his head. “They were here, we didn’t move it.”

“Well, Zack,” Jennifer said a little awkwardly. “There’s nothing on this room.”

She then pointed her flashlight at all corners and there was nothing but rocks on sight. “Yep, looks like there’s nothing here indeed.”

“Someone must have taken it,” Zack argued. “Colin, you were here first, did you see anything?”

Colin shook his head. “Sorry, pal, but no, I didn’t see anything.”

“Well, then you guys will have to forgive my bluntness but,” Zack said, making a slightly pause and shrugging his shoulders. “This isn’t my problem, I did what I thought it was right and warned you. Whether you guys will believe me, that’s for you to decide.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll be on the lookout,” Colin said with a grin. “Right, Jennifer?”

The blonde ranger had a thoughtful expression on her face and looked like she hadn’t heard her fellow ranger’s question. Suddenly, her gaze shifted to the other path on that area.

“Let’s take a quick look in the next area,” She said, looking at the other three. “Just to be sure.”

“Aw, c’mon, Jennifer,” Colin complained. “Do you really think that those imaginary suits just stood up and walked over to the springs?”

“Still, Colin, it’s our duty to check,” Jennifer said to him in a tone similar to one that a teacher would use on a student. “If something happens, do you want it to be on us because we didn’t do our jobs?”

That made Colin shut up and Zack shot a grateful look to the female ranger, who in turn gave him a quick smile. Jennifer then led them to next path and after about four minutes of walking, they reached a beautiful area.

“Wow,” Chloe said, sidling up to Zack. “This place’s amazing.”

Jennifer grinned. “This place is the reason this cave gets so many visitors.”

With sunlight seeping through various holes in the ceiling, they had enough illumination to turn off the flashlights. It was a bigger area than the last one, with six water springs scattered through the place and a few weird rock formations protruding from the ground. On the far end, there was an opening that looked like a path to another area.

“Okay, let’s look around for a while and then we go back.” Jennifer told them.

The four of them searched the new place for a few minutes, with Zack and Chloe taking the time to drink some water from one of the springs, but it didn’t yield results, much to Colin’s apparent glee.

“I told you guys that we wouldn’t find anything.” He said with a smirk.

“Geez, Colin, how could you be so sure?” Jennifer asked, getting a little pissed off with the other ranger’s attitude.

“I just find it really strange that a couple of bear suits would be lying in a cave in the middle of nowhere,” He shot back. “That’s it.”

“Yeah, but I saw it,” Zack argued. “Now if can go back outside, Chloe and I have to look for our other friend.”

When he said that, Colin slapped his own forehead, as if he had just remembered something. “Wait, that friend of yours, he wouldn’t happen to be named Gavin Westher, would he?”

“He is, did you found him, Colin?” Chloe asked, excitedly.

“Not quite, but I just remembered, earlier today there was a call to the station from one of the cabins,” He told them. “They told us that if someone contacted us looking for this Gavin Westher, they had found him and that he was resting there.”

“Oh, thank God he’s okay!” Chloe gushed happily.

“Where’s this cabin?” Zack asked, just as relieved.

“It’s one of the cabins available for renting,” Colin replied. “It’s not terribly far from here.”

“We can’t take you two there if you want.” Jennifer offered, looking at Zack.

“You can?” He asked. “Thanks, then.”

“Its settled then, we’ll deal with this bear issue at another time,” The female ranger decided. “Let’s go back.”

The other three nodded and a little more than ten minutes later, they were back at the cave’s entrance with the rangers’ motorcycles.

“I’ll show you guys the way there,” Colin said as he picked up his helmet. “Which one of you will ride with me?”

So, how do they pair up?
