Chapter 23
by

Does Wakeyo's expectations hold up?
They do amidst war
As expected, General Kairaba Buiss of Guinea, with the approval of the Guinean government under control of the military, launched an invasion of Liberia, intent on forcibly taking back the refugees and ending the growing power on their doorstep. Suffice to say, his hubris was mercilessly crushed to ash.
The Liberian Armed Forces, equipped with modern technology and trained to exacting Israeli standards, brutally crushed the Guinean army in open warfare. In guerilla warfare, they proved equally inadequate, and soon the last pockets of Guinean resistance were wiped away.
In the Guinean capital of Conakry, the Guinean government was **** to sign a treaty that ensured their own permanent exile from Guinea and the condemnation of countless corrupt bureaucrats and generals, and Liberian forces would temporarily occupy the country until its own government could be set up.
Just three days after the brief Liberian-Guinean War, however, something unexpected happened that would shake the region.
"Hey, you hear that?"
Several Liberian troops on guard duty could hear the sound of trumpets, drums and all manner of African instruments playing like a synchronized choir. The singing and playing grew louder, and they quickly looked in the direction of the noise.
They soon saw a very strange sight: Guinean locals wearing T-Shirts and waving flags proudly displaying the Liberian national symbol, and their faces were jubilant.
One of the troops quickly went towards the front of the singing choir, who instantly stopped but never lost their smiles.
"Excuse me, but what's going on here?" The Liberian soldier asked.
"Oh, we are just celebrating Guinea's official induction into the Republic of Liberia, Sir!" The lead singer proudly reported, "Just three days ago, we conducted an official referendum on whether Guinea should join Liberia as thanks for liberating us from tyranny, and I am proud to report that we have all responded with a resounding 'yes'!"
The Liberian soldiers on patrol looked at each other strangely, wondering just how they should report this to their superiors.
"Run the numbers again," A UN official reported.
"Sir, technicians and people on the ground have investigated thoroughly, and they ran the numbers five times," His aide exhaustedly report, "They confirmed that answers for 'yes' have easily reached 99.9% of the total vote. Guinea is all for and willing to join Liberia."
Though the official accepted it with a smile, something broke inside of him; he wanted to go home and cry himself to sleep, and he wanted to guzzle hard liquor by the gallon to deal with this... this... impossible answer.
99% of the vote? And that was these amazingly clean and accurate results? Did they not hear of the rigged vote for Crimea when it voted to join Russia?
As if it wasn't enough Israel steamrolled all opposition when they fought against an alliance of four Arab states, now this happens in Africa?
"I need a drink..."
God knew if he would face such ridiculous stuff again.
What does Aviel do in the meantime?
