"The Pope of Rome, George XI, is organizing a secret coup against your rule, and is sending secret messengers to other neighboring Christian rulers to declare a crusade against you," Oskar said, "Last we heard, the Kingdom of Francois has accepted the Pope's offer."

You sigh in frustration, wishing the Church did not make such petty moves.

"What of the others?" You ask, "And why are they here in Ahrensschau?"

"Most other Kingdoms remain noncommittal, concentrating on internal affairs," Said Oskar, "And with the Sultanates waging war against the Eastern Kingdoms, they're preoccupied at the moment. And they're here because they wished to try and frame Earl Augustin as a possible rebel, given his personality. They have been dealt with, however. Do not worry."

"Even so, we're only one small state in the Confederation despite our position as the leader," You said, "We cannot fight a war with Francois like this; we must get them out of the picture without confrontation."

"I have an idea, actually," Said Oskar, "I heard that King Louis' wife, Claudia, is a rather lecherous woman who has been having affairs on the sly whilst her husband is sleeping, and that one of her secret lovers is Lord Jean-Marc Borque of Coursart."

"Go on," You said.

"And, believe it or not, both have designs on the throne," Said Oskar, "King Louis is a rather... mediocre King, but both seem to dislike it, believing Francois theirs for the taking."

"And if we nudge them in the right direction, they'll be too busy fighting themselves to think of invading us," You said, "That still leaves the matter of the Pope, however. Just in case, send agents to Rome and keep an eye on this Pope George XI, and if necessary, get rid of him. And prepare a successor, just in case."

"As you command, my Liege," Said Oskar.

"In the meantime, I want all the Papacy's agents gone from here and the whole Confederation," You ordered, "We'll be returning to Ostgrenze once we're done."
