The trio joins the rest at the lake.

Zack stepped up to the dock in a pair of trunks and sandals. A tight grey shirt covered his broad chest. He breathed in a deep breath, savoring the crisp air. This was going to be a good trip, he felt.

In the lake he could spot Brandon, Ashley, Heather and his sister, while the rest were lounging on the wooden deck. Victoria was stretched out on the ground like a model, making his heart skip a beat. She was the kind of girl who was more beautiful than sexy, the type that parents would love to see their son bring home. That was the plan, if everything worked out fine. Zack was sure that the attraction he felt for the girl went beyond just physical.

Emboldened by the excitement of the trip, Zack sat down beside her. Gavin, who was playing with his phone nearby, raised an eyebrow. Chloe gave him a thumbs-up.

"I think I'm liking this trip already."
"Me too! The sun, the lake- I'm wondering why we didn't do this last summer. Every summer, in fact!" Victoria said excitedly. Zack tried to keep his eyes off her gorgeous white bikini, or the curves that made his mind go wild.

The conversation flowed naturally, much to Zack's relief. Although they were friends, he was usually too impaired by his crush on the charming girl to carry a conversation well. One way or another, he wanted to see a resolution to his feelings.

"If you don't mind me asking, what made you break up with Lisa? I never heard the full story."

"Things just didn't work out, I guess. She's nice, but I think there's someone else for me after all."
"Oh, really?" Victoria asked.
"Yeah. I think I'm into blondes. Has to have a gorgeous smile. A big plus if she was nice and sweet."

Victoria giggled. Her expression told him that she wasn't picking up the hint.

"I'm sure you'll find that special girl someday."
"Maybe I've already found her." This time, his words made her go silent. A part of him was screaming, wondering what kind of crap was coming out of his pie-hole.
"Well. I see."

The conversation died at that point, and the growing silence was increasingly awkward. Zack was mentally banging his head against the wall. Fortunately, Brandon saved the day.

"Hey, you lazy pigs! Come on in here!" The footballer shouted at them. Zack got up to his feet.

"Let's go!"
"Umm, yeah."

Zack was worried at Victoria's lukewarm reaction. Did she not consider him a possible love interest after all? Zack stepped on the railing and leaped into the lake, creating an impressive splash. The cold water felt good on his skin, and helped clear his mind. He was still too hesitant. Since it was already at this point, he should just confess to the girl.

Several light thuds on the deck caught his attention. To his surprise, the usually reserved Victoria followed in his steps, diving straight into the pool with her arms and legs tucked up. She made a considerably smaller splash. Everyone else was impressed by her sudden impulsiveness.

"That was great, Vicky!" Zack said as she resurfaced. The girl's blonde hair was plastered to her head and body now, and her body dripped with beads of water. Zack traced their path with his eyes, down her neck area and collarbone, to her bikini-
