Chapter 45 by Almax Almax

Where are you?

The theatre, where the lectures were.

creeaaakk

The metal hatch opens slowly on its hinges, allowing you to peek out through the gap. The room is dark, but you can tell it's really big, and you recognise the seats and stands set up at the back of the room as the place you sat with Lexi and Cameron for the lectures last week. There's really something to this vent travel for sneakiness, you didn't even give the vent behind where you were sitting a second thought!

You push the hatch open the rest of the way and start to carefully slip out, aiming to land on the seats about a half a metre drop down from you. When the hatch fully opens, the room's lights turn on with a CHUNK, startling you and temporarily blinding you.

"YAAH!" You yell, tumbling out of the vent and landing in an undignified way. You pounce up to your feet again as soon as you've got your bearings, and look around, blinking the purple spots out of your vision. Whazzit?!

"Hey, dude!" Lexi calls out to you from where she is on the stage. There are two giant speakers set up in the middle of it on wheelie trays, which she must have moved from the sides of the stage, and she's sitting on top of the left one with her legs dangling over the edge, one crossed over the other. She's got her guitar angled upwards in her lap, holding it with one hand as she gives you a big overhead wave in greeting with the other. "I thought this would be better than just strumming in a room!"

She really has to shout, since she doesn't have a microphone and you're right across the room. You lower your arms from the defensive stance you took earlier, and move out from the rows of seats to the seating aisle, walking down to get closer to her.

"I had to pick the backstage door's lock to connect these things to power." She explains, patting the top of the speaker she's sitting on high above the rest of the stage. Her volume adjusts accordingly as you get closer, until you eventually reach your position of standing beside the front row, where she can basically just look down at you and talk normally. "I also only found this little thing to work with them."

She points down at the soundhole of her guitar, where a small microphone is clipped in a way that doesn't disrupt the strings. She gives the guitar a test strum, which plays melodically out through the twin speakers.

"So, you ready to begin?"

You nod, shoving your hand into your pocket and pulling out the lollies that were a part of the final arrow, so that you can munch on them while you listen. This seems like something you could get in trouble for doing in many, many different ways, but what's done is done and you can't really back out now, after she put in all this effort.

"Alright, here goes." She says with a smile, stopping the fading vibrations of her guitar strings with her hand and then clearing her throat.

Here goes!
