Chapter 4 by ErisAphrodite ErisAphrodite

Where does Xalendra go?

The stalls.

There were many different stalls set up along a large portion of the road, displaying their wares in the hopes of catching the eye of every passerby. Most of it was food, a lot of it simple everyday items, but none of that interested Princess Xalendra at the time. It was only when she saw the large ornamental brass torch standing outside a particular stall that she deigned to approach one.

There was a big red canopy hung over the front of the stand, fringed in gold that caught the torchlight immaculately. As she passed beneath it, she saw the man standing behind the counter, who greeted her with a broad grin that made the curls of his moustache nearly reach his eyes.

“Hail, fair maiden! Only the most wondrous of treasures here! Each one unique, each one well-traveled, and each one fairly priced,” he said to her, gesturing jovially.

Xalendra walked up to the counter to peruse the wares this man boasted about, and to her surprise found there were but three things on the counter.

“As you can see,” the shopkeeper said, “my treasures are selling out fast—they are that good! You know it is true, for I only have three items left to sell. But they are the best, of course! Like anything you see?”

She was admittedly curious, and so she leaned in close to get a good look at the items.

There was a strange wooden hoop laced with varicolored thread and adorned with beads and feathers. There was also a bright-blue bottle the size of her hand. Lastly, there was a tiny silver ring with a pink, teardrop-shaped gem in it.

“Well?” the man asked. “Like anything in particular?”

Which did Xalendra like best?
