Chapter 17 by Trom1806 Trom1806

You and your warriors fly high and try to hide from the enemy's attention...

The result of pursuing a group of enemies.

So, you and your squad of ten windriders continue pursuing a small group of retreating enemies.

The pursuit lasts for more than a day...

You were waiting for the enemies to organize a night halt to give the order to destroy them.

It would seem that your calculation was flawless - an attack by surprise in the middle of the night, shooting from the sky, sleeping enemies will not be able to give a worthy rebuff and... potential losses among your warriors will be minimized.

However, these vile babilians surprised you...

They simply did not rest at night.

No rest at all.

They continued their purposeful movement to the west.

As if they felt that they had to hurry and that their lives depended on it.

So, you and your warriors were **** to continue the pursuit even at night.

The ruins of a huge ancient city are getting closer...

Billboards and strange pillars along the remains of asphalt roads.

Deserted stone multi-story buildings that look more like mountains.

Many large piles of concrete and metal, which seem to have been melted by hellish heat hundreds of years ago and now lie under the open sky and rust.

The enemies are clearly heading for the western outskirts of these ruins.

You peer into the distance, watching the distant small figures of these persons from the heights of the sky.

And you notice that this group of thirty enemies is heading towards some three-story building on the outskirts of a dead ancient city.

In the windows of the second and third floors of this building, you see positions for shooters equipped with sandbags.

So, these outskirts of the ruins are not as dead and deserted as you previously assumed.

"We are closing the distance! Fly faster!" - you shout to your warriors.

The Windriders carry out your order.

Ben holds his winchester hunting rifle in his hands. He aims at the enemies and is clearly preparing to open fire to kill.

"Shoot only on my command!" - you shout, looking him in the eyes.

Ben stops aiming with obvious irritation.

You watch the enemies again.

It seems that one of them noticed your squad in the sky.

They shout loudly to each other and start running towards the three-story building as fast as possible.

Some of them throw down their weapons as they run.

Your attentive gaze notices that armed persons start coming out of several exits of this building (there are no doors, the doorways look clearly dilapidated; but there are barricades that were clearly built recently). They look different than the babilians. More disciplined. Most of them have armor and helmets. There are no mutants among them.

Among the squad of babilians there is one large three-meter green-skinned mutant, who was previously led on a chain. Now the chain has been thrown to the ground and this muscular creature looks around with an incomprehensible look, bewilderedly looking at the running people.

You and your warriors fly closer and closer...

The dull yellow eyes of the mutant are stunned.

His ugly greenish face, covered with vile growths and warts.

He growls in confusion and sits down on the ground, fiddling with his chain with his large, clumsy fingers.

The collar is still on his neck.

Obviously, this mutant is not very intelligent...

Armed and armored strangers arm and search the babilians.

By the time you and your squad fly closer, all the babilians are **** inside the three-story structure.

And someone is coming towards you...

A tall man accompanied by a group of ten guys armed with shotguns. Each of them wears elastic Kevlar armor with shoulder pads and helmets. On some of the helmets you notice strange symbols that you don’t understand: “SWAT”.

The leader of this group approaches you – he looks more muscular and taller than the rest of this group. His face has wrinkles around his eyes and scars (near the right temple and just above the chin). Slightly hooked nose. Determined expression. Probably, he is about 40 years old or more. The man is clean-shaven – no beard or moustache. Short-cropped dark brown hair on his head.

An important external feature is the lifeless metal emitting a reddish glow - this is what he has instead of his left eye!

He looks at you with an expression of easily noticeable irritation.

There is no weapon in his hands.

However, on his belt, your gaze falls on two holsters, each with a clearly visible revolver.

Your warriors follow you.

You step forward, bow politely, and say, “Greetings. My name is Captain Dar, leading a band of warriors of the Skyblooded tribe. I assume that this three-story building is located in your territory. This group of babilians has entered your territory. But they are our enemies. We are at war with them. We have pursued them. Give these babilians to us.”

The tall man looks you in the eye.

He then bows slightly in return and says, “You are correct. This is our territory. Fort Hardwill. A newly erected stronghold of the Steel Alliance. My name is Lieutenant-Signifer John Talbot. The persons you speak of have requested asylum in our territory. Their weapons have been confiscated. These persons will serve the greater good in accordance with the tenets of the Law of Steel. We are not participating in your war…"

You remember…

You have already seen this man before. He was leading a delegation of these strange persons with metal implants on their bodies. They were going to the settlement of Fred's Hangar. They (shortly before you brought an army of windriders led by war-chief Satlon) wanted to persuade the head of this settlement to go over to the side of the organization called Steel Alliance. In this case, the settlement of Fred's Hangar would become their territory. But it seems that you convinced Fred the One-Eyed Seeker to go the other way…

And this fact clearly did not please these guys.

"But… These babilians… They are slaveowners!" - you can't stand it.

"This does not apply to the current situation. Steel Alliance is neutral. We are not interested in YOUR conflict. I ask you to leave our territory… If you do not want problems." - your interlocutor calmly finishes the sentence.

Then he makes a slow gesture with his hand towards the windows of the three-story building.

You see something in the windows…

In addition to the armed warriors in the equipped shooting positions, you see something metal.

In some of the windows there are robotic turrets, whose machine gun barrels are clearly ready to open fire at any moment!

You nod and, despite the bitter feeling of failure of your mission, order your warriors to leave here.

You ignore the indignant look of Ben.

Passing by a stupid three-meter green-skinned mutant, who continues to senselessly fiddle with his chain and sit on the ground, you hear the cry of John Talbot: "This green-skinned mutant is of no interest to us. You can do whatever you want with him…"

Ben looks at the three-meter mutant with hatred (this is not surprising, given the events that in the recent past led to Ben falling into slavery).

Ben clutches his winchester hunting rifle and is clearly preparing to take decisive action...

Will you let him do what he wants?

Or would you rather do something else?

So your group follows you past this stupid mutant, who is fiddling with his chain, looking around in confusion. Then...
