Chapter 17

The sounds of battle gradually fade away...
The prince realizes the results of this bloody battle.
The rest of the day was devoted to treating the wounded, counting losses and analyzing the current situation.
Sitting in his luxurious tent, Prince Jason listened to one report after another from his court dignitaries and realized that what happened today could only be called a "victory" for the sake of mocking sarcasm.
Almost a third of the mounted knights died...
The losses among the foot militia-warriors were also high: out of two thousand, only about one and a half thousand survived.
And there were many wounded in the army.
The orc detachments managed to burn the granaries with food, which were on the territory of the monastery of Saint Lothar.
Sir Neil Kayburn - died. And he was the heir to one of the influential and wealthy baronial families of the western region of the kingdom.
Of course, the orcs' losses in the battle were even greater.
And the magical "deception" of the orcish warlord performed by the prince helped to complicate the coordination of the orcish troops during the battle. Perhaps this confusion among the enemies helped to avoid defeat and even more terrible consequences. It would have been even worse for the humans if the orcs had acted more effectively and were able to rationally use the armed reserves.
However, most of the orcish army was able to retreat into the wooded area.
It was not a panic flight.
The orcs retreated in an organized manner.
Unpleasant thoughts in the prince's head: "This was not the main orcish army... That stupid orc warlord whom I deceived was not the head of the entire tribal union of "Spinebreakers"... It seems that today's battle is only the beginning..."
Perhaps this is not so bad...
After all, there are vague, frightening rumors about the head of the "Spinebreakers" regarding his magical abilities. If Prince Jason had tried to deceive Supreme Chieftain Veragzur the Horrendous himself in such a bold (and poorly prepared) way, the prince would have had a very... very sad end to this venture.
"Your Highness! I have fulfilled your order..." - one of the servants approaches the prince, interrupting his thoughts.
The prince takes a break from the military meeting and follows this servant into one of the hospital tents.
Inside the tent, on a large wooden table, lies the bloody body of a tall warrior.
"We were barely able to remove the armor from his body... He never let go of his sword... Many wounds... He was covered in a pile of orcish corpses... It's even surprising that he did not suffocate to ****!" - the servant mutters.
"Leave me alone..." - the prince says in a quiet voice.
The servant bows respectfully and leaves the tent, looking around in fear.
Sir Denric Tahlane.
This is who the prince asked to find.
Jason examines his body...
Stab wounds in the chest area.
Chop wounds on the arms.
Three...no, four arrow wounds (the arrowheads were pulled out of the wounds, but the bleeding wounds look disgusting).
On the face...a bloody mess from a blow from some kind of blunt weapon.
These wounds...There are so many of them that the knight's chances of survival are low.
Jason could use his magical abilities to heal him.
However, for this he needs to rest for at least one day - after all, he spent a significant part of his magical energy on the "trick" with an illusory appearance to deceive the orcish warlord.
It is unclear whether Sir Denric has the opportunity to wait another day.
The prince continues to examine the knight's body.
The knight's hands are clutching the hilt of a large two-handed sword made of a strange dark metal, whose blade emits a faint glow like dark greenish sparks.
Strange...
When drops of blood fall on the blade of this sword, the blood seems to evaporate quickly.
Or is it absorbed into the surface of the metal?
At the same time, the shine of the sword slightly increases.
Jason notices that several streams of dark green sparks (coming from the blade of the sword) rush to the wounds on Sir Denric's body.
And these wounds are gradually beginning to heal!
The bleeding stops and after a couple of minutes there are only extremely ugly scars at the site of the wounds.
These scars are especially noticeable on the knight's face: a broken nose, crimson spots, areas of damaged skin.
The prince notices that Sir Denric's body is seized by a slight tremor.
Suddenly, the knight regains consciousness.
"Where am I?! What is happening to me?! Did I hear some kind of mocking laughter in my head?! Am I going crazy?!" - Sir Denric gets up from the table, but his hands continue to grip the hilt of the strange sword.
Before the prince can utter a word, the knight looks around and says: "Is the battle over? Have we won?"
"Yes, Sir Denric... We have won... What future chroniclers will call the Battle of the Monastery of Saint Lothar has ended in our victory..." - the prince answers cautiously.
Jason sees a strange, barely noticeable gleam in the knight's dark brown eyes.
In the prince's head, a barely audible non-human whisper sounds: "This knight will be a useful... toy..."
"You fought valiantly, sir. I see that you masterfully used my gift... Now you need to recover from your wounds and rest..." - Prince Jason says, gesturing to the sword.
Then the prince, slightly limping due to the wound in his leg, leaves the tent and returns to holding a war council.
Jason must plan the further actions of the eborvairian troops.
After all, after a couple of days of rest, the army will have to resume its movement to the west...
Because of the premonition of the coming events, fear grows in the prince's soul, which he tries not to express outwardly...
So, the first victory on the battlefield was not easy. But what will happen to Prince Jason next?
