Chapter 54 by Rabidwolf
The battle of Deadneck is over and the town is victorious, but at what cost?
The kids are safe.
"Beth's OK." Caitlin quickly reasured Lisa. "She's upstairs helping out the doc."
"And Billy?" Lisa asked.
"He's downstairs." Dan told Lisa. "Last I saw him he was fine."
Lisa quickly made her way downstairs taking care to try and not trip over the numerous bodies that littered the stairs. In the lobby area of the hotel, which was also littered with bodies, Lisa found Billy and Virgil together, celebrating. Virgil had aquired a bottle of whiskey and he and Billy were sharing it.
On seeing that Billy was fine, Lisa ran upto him and hugged him.
"I thought I told you to stay upstairs with the doc." a relieved Lisa told Billy.
"I couldn't let the rest of you fight and not do anything." Billy replied.
Lisa pushed herself away from Billy and looked at him.
"How do you feel after having had to kill someone?" Lisa asked Billy.
"I don't know." Billy shrugged.
"The boy didn't kill anyone." Dan stated matter of factly.
A stunned Billy, and a relieved Lisa looked at Dan.
"But I emptied this thing three times." Billy informed everyone indicating his colt.
"And didn't hit anyone." Dan countered.
"But I must have." Billy argued.
"Are you calling me a liar?" Dan said menacingly.
Dan then advanced towards Billy, his bowie knife at the ready. Lisa drew her colt and pulled the trigger but she still had not reloaded it. Billy raised his own colt and fired. Dan never even flinched as the shot impacted the wall well clear of him.
"Helps if you keep your eyes open." Dan informed Billy. Then Dan sheathed his knife and headed upstairs to check on Pete and Davey.
Lisa breathed a sigh of relief and holstered her colt.
"You couldn't have come up with a better way to get your point across?" Lisa asked Dan.
"I guess," said Dan pausing briefly on the stairs, "but none more effective."
What about the rest of the defenders?
