Deadneck

A Scum's Town

Chapter 1 by underwise underwise

Lisa Bennet rode her horse smoothly and calmly across the desert sand, sleepily leaning her head against the neck of her horse. Her long, blonde hair fell to either side of her head, and her bright blue eyes could only be seen every now and then, for they were nodding off. Her average, but perfectly shaped breasts heaved slowly against her saddle, and her cowboy uniform and hat helped keep some of the heat off of her. She was a five foot four woman, and she had left her home four years ago when she was sixteen in hopes of adventure. Little happened to her though.

She spent most of her life traveling across sandy deserts, coming up at a town here and there, and chatting up with other cowboys. She was a loner, for she was perhaps the only cowgirl to exist, seeing as it wasn’t a very womanly thing, but she had learned a lot over the past four years in fighting and shooting, and she could look out for herself, which was something she was proud to say.

She heard a noise. Looking up, she saw that she was approaching a new town. The town looked dusty, run down, old, and scum ridden. A large, peeling sign hung over the town reading: Deadneck, and as she looked past the sign, she saw three men upon horses approaching her. She didn’t like the looks of them. Tensing up, she waited patiently as the three rode up to her.

“Well what’s a pretty little thing like you doin’ way out here?” the center of the men asked.

“Traveling.” Lisa replied bluntly. “Is there a problem?”

“Oh, no problem, yet.” The man replied. “You see, there’s a toll to enter this city. Sixty dollars. Now, you can either pay the toll, or continue on to the nearest town which is about three hundred miles away.”

“Sixty dollars?” Lisa spat. “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“Nope.” The man smiled. “Pay it, or leave.”

Pay it, or Leave?
