Chapter 51 by Whitey_V Whitey_V

Making plans

The history teacher

The phone rang only a few times before getting picked up. "Hey George, what's up?" Melissa voice seemed distant, as if he had interrupted her in the middle of something.

"Hey, I'm not calling at a bad time right?" George hoped he hadn't interrupted her during a class, he had no idea when Melissa's history classes were.

"No, it's ok, I just came out of a little meeting, I have a few classes in an hour and the rest of the day off." George could almost imagine himself sitting in one of Melissa's classes, slouching in the chair and trying his very best to keep his gaze away from the teachers amazing rack.

"I was just wondering what you were doing later? I thought maybe we could hang out?" Suddenly he realized that he wasn't so sure of himself anymore, it seemed as if, most of the time, people were inviting him over to hang out.

"George Holt, are you asking me out on a date?" Her voice was both stern and playful, George could hardly tell what he was supposed to think.

"Well, if you could find it in your heart to give a lowly handyman like myself a shot, I would love to take you to dinner tonight, say around 7?" He could hear Melissa giggle on the other end of the line, which he took as a good sign. The afternoon sun shone in through the window of his little bungalow, a warm glow grew over him as he lay back on the couch, his feet up. Today was a lovely day and it would've been a waste if he did not get to spend it with someone.

"Well alright then, out of the goodness of my heart. Can you pick me up?" Though he tried to hide it, the excitement in his voice was hard to conceal.

"Yes of course, I'll see you tonight Melissa, I'm looking forward to it." George sat up, straightening his hair as if Melissa was standing in front of him. Unexpected nerves came rushing over him, it had been a long time since he had actually been on a genuine date.

"Me too, and George, could you make me one promise?"

"Sure, anything." He wasn't sure what Melissa meant, but he was about to ruin his chances at a date with her.

"please don't show up in that rickety golf cart of yours, I'm sure you've got a car hidden away somewhere." George laughed and Melissa joined him, they spoke for another moments before finally hanging up. It was true, George had an old pick up truck he hardly ever got to use parked somewhere on campus. It probably wasn't much of an improvement compared to his golf cart, but it would have to do...

A date
