Chapter 35 by Verdant_Hatchling Verdant_Hatchling

What?

The fight was finished. Already?

Damon was still holding his position, not having moved from the crushing motion for nearly ten minutes, he heard a pair of concerned voices calling out to him.

“Damon, come sit, if you need to talk, we can.” Ember was, of course, quick to try to console him.

Dirpe was fast as well, with a different method for helping him, as she fluttered to his shoulder and nuzzled into his neck. “Dirpe can help?”

As Damon heard their voices, he looked towards his bloodstained hands, before they dropped to his sides and he began staggering to his throne, shakily taking his seat, and having the Blood Barrel push an endless deluge to cover his form in a blanket of blood, as he laid his head back, and fell into a slumber.

Somewhere, right under a million miles away, a candle’s flame flickered for a final time, before extinguishing in its entirety.

An old, wizened figure was shaken awake by the sight before rushing at an elderly pace, pulling a rope, and ringing the bells.

The ringing told a different story for whoever heard it. The general populace was being told of an unknown threat, but the more well informed? They knew their greatest asset was dead. And that brought about an immense tremor of fear through the council chambers.

And beyond the mortal realm, a certain Goddess felt the fate of Cassius, and after shedding tears in mourning, she briefly considered ****, but was interrupted by an abrupt voice.

“Don’t take **** on my account.” Cassius was standing behind the Goddess, hands behind his back, as he was walking up to her, “The Dragon King has finally given me what I’ve sought for the majority of my life. Peace. Don’t hurt him for that.”

“As you wish. So, now I think I can guess where you want to be. So, despite the fact you’d make an exceptional guardian deity, I’ll send you on your way.” Then, she snapped her fingers.

And Cassius began to fade, as he appeared in front of a humble cottage, where he walked up to the door and knocked upon it.

And after a moment of rustling, the door opened, and after gasps of surprise, Cassius was jumped upon by the children he’d all but forgotten, before turning slightly to the side and seeing his wife.

And tears fell, as Cassius collapsed to the floor, as he was huddled by the family he’d lost so long ago.

Shaking himself awake, Damon opened his eyes, and moved the blood blanket, when he saw a message appear.

After preparing himself, Damon pressed yes.

Leaving a surprised pair to plop onto the throne, confused at his sudden vanishing.

And with a flash, he disappeared from the throne, and was transported to a space filled with heavenly light.

As he looked around, he noticed he was absurdly tall in the chamber, so he shrunk himself down to twenty feet tall.

As he resumed looking around, he noticed a woman sitting at a chair, and another chair across from her for Damon’s form.

As he walked to his chair, he sat down and waited.

“Hello Damon Steel, Dragon King. When I tried to summon you, I was blocked. Why is that? Even my siblings would struggle to reject my summons, but you? You could decide. It was your choice. How?” The holy figure was inquisitive.

“I… I’m not sure. I awoke in this world a few months ago, I think?” He wasn’t lying, not entirely.

“A transmigration then? That makes some sense.”

The two began to delve into conversation.

After they spoke, Damon was curious, “What’s your name?”

The glowing figure was staring at him with an interested beaming.

"My name is..."
