The end of the road

As expected, the last couple days of the journey are quiet. The dwarves have tamed the lands surrounding their mountains, and you see little beyond some wildlife. Finally, the five of you approach the great gates leading into the city.

Julie smiles, holding your hand. “This is amazing, it’s like walking into a movie or a fantasy novel!”

You chuckle. “That’s how I felt when I first arrived. It’s strange, but it’s actually much more modern than you imagine.”

She smiles. “I’m glad! I wouldn’t want to live in a primitive cave. But the way you all talk about it, it sounds great! And I’m excited to meet the rest of the girls, Marin and Aisha were telling me about them the other night.”

Naia giggles and cuts in. “I’m sure they’ll love you, Julie!”

Julie grins. “I hope so! I like all of you already, so I want the others to like me too.”

Marin laughs. “Well, you’re just like Naia, but human, and we all adore her, so I think you’re in luck.”

You nod. “Yeah, I don’t think you need to worry about that.”

Julie looks at you slyly. “And I’ll need to get to know everyone VERY well…”

You laugh. “You and Naia really are very similar!”

Julie and Naia grin at each other. Aisha laughs. “They are, but that’s why they’re fun, right?”

Everyone chuckles at that. You all head into the city, the gate guards recognizing your group and waving you inside. The five of you walk down the now familiar streets, with Julie looking around in wonder. Before too long, you arrive at your house, and smile at her.
