Chapter 3 by KingRaccoon KingRaccoon

Where do you want to begin your Hive ?

The Soria's farm.

The Sorias arrived on KEPLER-442B only a few months ago when the father of the family got a job in the main base of the planet. The whole family was thrilled to live this new adventure on another world, seeing this as a chance to have a new beginning while being part of the great future of humanity across the universe. Well.. Not the whole family. Katerina never wanted to live Earth, where her friends, her lover, and all her memories were. And for what ? Living secluded in a farm, at least 3 days away from any other settlers camp, when she lived in a big city down on Earth..
Katerina was a 24 year-old redhead girl. She was extremely popular back on Earth because of her gorgeous figure. Boys were droolling and girls were jealous of her large breasts and hourglass waist on top of what seems to be endless legs. And if by miracle, someone wasn't already charmed by the woman's appearance, her green sultry eyes, surrended by long beautiful orange hair would hit the final blow. But now, no matter how good she looked was irrelevant as she was spending most of her time alone, doing some boring task at the farm, waiting for something to save her from what she thought was a green prison.

Life on the farm itself wasn't such a bad thing. The house was bigger than any houses the family had on Earth. Landscapes were amazing, and nature was all around the habitation, with all kind of strange plants, flowers and animals never seen on Katerina's home planet. The real problem was the isolation. New colonies like the one on KEPLER-442B were not developped enough to have high speed transportation or a lot of events to attend to. Everything had to be built from zero and so, forcing the first settlers to a simple but hard lifestyle, compared to the advanced Human civilization.
Katerina's day were dicted by the tasks her mother would give her. Somedays she was outside, watching the herds of cows every families were given when they arrived, or working in the field of weird cereals she didn't even knows. Somedays she was doing some laundry, or cleaning in the house. Work was not hard, and with her siblings helping too, everything was done quickly everyday. It was almost worst, as work would keep her busy, at least.

There were times when work was so little that Katerina had a lot of free times. Most the times she used this time to wander around the property, observing the weird fauna around her. It was as fascinating as it was scary. Not knowing what was safe and what wasn't **** her to always be alerted. But despite that fear, there were some creature Katerina felt safe about. Like this sort of fox sized mammal settlers called "Tree hound" because of their ability to climb thanks to sorts of suckers under their paws. A pack of 7 of these animals lived just outside the farm's land, and Katerina often watched them go across the fields at dawn. After some times she finds herself able to recognize every individuals of the pack, which brought her a little joy everytime she was right.

One day, she noticed the pack lost a member. She first thought it had died of old age but, during one her trip around the farm, she spotted one of the tree hound, alone, sniffing and patrolling around a big tree, far from the usual place the pack would be seen. Intrigued, she went to see closer but, whereas these animals were normally extremely shy and pacifists, this time the hound showed its large teeth while growling, being really menacing. Katerina got startled, and try to step back slowly, to avoid anymore stress for the angry dog-like protector. Suddenly, she heard a strong buzz sound coming from behind her left ear, and then felt the presence of a large flying insect passing really close to her face. Afraid of bees and other flying bugs, she drew back quickly, almost tripping on a branch on the floor, then rushed back to the safety of her home.

Still shooked by the encounter the had in the forest, a few days ago, Katerina stopped wandering around the farm when she had free time. But something was off... Every day, less and less tree hounds were crossing the fields. This morning, only 3 of them caught the eye of the redhead. In the same timelapse, more and more insects were flying around the house. Not enough to be alerting, but Katerina didn't like that, as she was scared of them.

It was 11 a.m. when Katerina, looking after the herd in the pasture, heard a commotion coming from the forest at the farm's border. After a few seconds, 2 hounds ran from the trees, chased by what it seems to be the missing individuals of the pack. One of them got caught and attacked by its former group. The cries and yaps shocked the young woman, who was frozen since the beginning at the attack. Then, the group stopped, and let go the poor one they caught, who didn't wait to rush far from them, back to the forest's area the pack used to live.

It was the last time Katerina saw them, as the next morning and for the following week, none of the 7 initial Tree hounds ever crossed the fields.

What do you do ?
