What Does She Say?
The Past
"Eric, how much do you know about my past?" Gaia asks me and I think it over.
"Not much really. I know you were a healer in the Lyna wars. Then you ascended to Godhood and met Verona." I say and she nods. Suddenly something Prisma said comes to my mind. "And I heard you had a Champion before me. It sounded like something bad happened with them, but that's all I heard." I say and she looks at me shocked.
"Wait, who told you that?" She asks me surprised.
"I can't say, sorry. But they only let this slip after asking me to take good care of you." I say, hoping she won't push this further. She looks down in thought before sighing.
"Well, that saves a bit of explaining. Yes, I did have a Champion before you. I asked you here because I wanted to explain why Verona was so distrustful of you." She pauses to take a drink of water before continuing. I hadn't noticed the two cups before and wondered when she planned this. "My previous Champion was a kind and gentle man. He used a School of magic similar to Light. It was called the Holy School of Magic. It consisted mainly of attack spells but had a few healing ones too. I met him after he fought a horde of monsters. A Dark Guild gathered them from a Dungeon and let them loose. Verona and I went to help since we were nearby. I found him on the brink of ****. He was too injured for me to heal, missing his arm and shoulder. A monster tore his arm off. So I asked if he wanted to live. I made him my Champion and was able to use the influx of my mana to heal him. When he came to I explained what happened. He thanked me and started traveling around with me. After becoming my Champion he gained my healing spells. But he kept his Holy School of magic. We grew close and even Verona seemed to like him. After a few years though he began to change. By now he was much stronger than before. He was able to slay Dragons on his own. I didn't think he had the ability beforehand. But that power started changing him. He became self-centered. He'd start threatening others to get things he wanted. He'd harass and threaten women and bribe those in power. It took a few months for us to notice since we trusted him and he always ran off to do this. Once we did, Verona and I confronted him. He attempted to deny it before saying it was his right. That since he had that power they had to do what he said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing at the time. It took me a moment to gather my thoughts. I told him off saying this isn't what I made him my Champion for. I told him that it was done and started taking my soul fragment from him. This way he would no longer be my Champion. He used his magic and **** my fragment to stay. He drew his sword and threatened me. That's when Verona got angry, well not that she was calm beforehand. She used her wind to immediately trap him and drew her sword. She placed it on his neck and drew a small bit of blood. She told him to release my soul fragment or she'd release his head from his shoulders. He tried to escape before giving up and letting it go. I took my fragment and we left. At the time I thought we'd never see him again. Then three years later he tracks us down. I was meeting with Verona at the time. The moment we were together, he appeared in front of us. Behind him was the God of Disease. He had become his Champion and was here for ****. The God of Disease was well known at the time. He was a Dark God who had killed two Light Gods already. The God helped him try to kill us. Fortunately, Verona and I were able to beat them. We still struggled with them, and wouldn't have made it without my healing. But we managed to beat them and kill the God of Disease. After that, he lost his Championhood again. We told him we were going to take him to a Lyna jail and he started laughing. He drew his sword and cut his own throat." Gaia says before pausing to take another deep breath. "After that, I decided to never have another Champion and Verona agreed. But you changed that. After watching you I decided to trust you with my powers. Once Verona learned of this, she got upset with me. She was worried so she kept a close eye on you. She studied every bit of magic you have that she considered dangerous. This way she'd be prepared if you fought her. She also placed that teleportation mark on you so she could get to you if you tried to run." Gaia says and I take a moment to sort this before responding.
"So Verona's been studying me so she'd be prepared if we ended up fighting?" I ask.
"Yes, but she does enjoy studying new things. I can tell she'd been having a blast lately. And I can even see she's decided to trust you now. She won't try to study you to fight you, but she still will research your spells and skills." Gaia replies and I smile.
"That's fine. I don't mind her researching my spells. I've gotten us..." I say before someone knocks and interrupts me.
"Eric! Are you busy?" I hear Verona shout through the door. Gaia chuckles before getting up.
"Thanks for listening Eric. It feels nice to talk about this with someone else." Gaia says while walking to the door. She opens it before I can respond and Verona walks inside.
"Thanks, Gaia. Eric, are you ready?" Verona asks and I get up.
"Yeah, is everything ready?" I ask and she smiles.
"Yeah, I took the Cuffs that the Devils had you in before we left. I had been researching them and turned the spatial binding one into this." She says while holding out a small red and black box. The box is made from the same Chaos Threads my Mantle is from. I can see a Silver Vine wrapped around the bottom. On top, another Vine holds the two halves of the broken Spatial Binding Cuff. "I made this with some of your super plants. It enhances the effects of the Cuff. It makes it strong enough to even trap Gods. It will bind the space within a ten-mile radius. This will prevent you from accessing your inventory and using Spatial magic. This is the only way to make sure he can't escape. Have you read the sealing Spellbook yet?" She asks and I shake my head no.
"Not yet, but let's head to the ocean. I'll read it on the way." I say and she nods. We leave and Gaia follows us.
"Are you coming too?" I ask.
"Yes. Don't worry though. I'm not able to fight but I am fast. I should be able to dodge as long as I keep my distance. I'll heal you if you get hurt during the fight." She says and I nod. I open my inventory and take out the Spellbook. I Observe it before reading it.
