A Champion

Once we finish eating Luna and Innu run outside to train. Asami leaves to do the dishes and Verona approaches me.

"Eric, do you still want to unseal the Demon God tonight?" She asks me.

"Yeah, who all is fighting?" I ask her and she smiles a little before replying.

"You and me, definitely. Probably Bergeth too, I just need to track him down and ask. I was thinking of asking Luna and Innu to be on standby nearby. We don't know what his powers are, so I want us to fight him alone first. This way if it's too much for them they're not at risk." She replies and I nod. "Also Eric, I'd like you to Observe me. Your ability to see a person's Level will be good for this. I'd like you to tell me the Demon Gods Level once you unseal him. But I need to know mine to get a good estimate of his strength." She continues and I nod. I Observe her, excited to finally know what Level she is.

Verona Lvl 92, Class: Goddess, Title: Keeper of Truths, RP: 250, Hearts: 4, Weak: Annihilation

HP: 25000/25000, MP: 30000/30000

I tell her her Level and she writes it down in a notepad she grabs from the air. I keep her RP and Hearts to myself.

"Have you read the Spellbook the Devils had yet?" Verona asks and I shake my head no.

"Not yet. I didn't want to risk reading it until we were ready. Speaking of, where do you want to do this at?" I ask and she thinks it over.

"We should do it in one of our Domains. If we do it outside, the other Dark Gods will notice. They're sure to interfere. But if we do it here they won't be able to tell. They'll know he was slain though. The Dark Gods all have a Life Flame connected to one another. They're cautious, so they keep tabs on each other." She says and I nod.

"Which Domain do you think would be better?" I ask and she tilts her head in thought.

"Yours. You have the ocean that the Lady of The Lake can use. Mine doesn't have water, so she won't be able to fight. And the ocean has a river connecting to it right?" She asks and I nod. "That means that she can escape down the river if she needs to."

"That sounds good. But could he escape my Domain?" I ask and she looks down in thought.

"Yeah, he can just leave to his Domain... Eric, give me a few hours before we start, okay?" She asks and I nod curiously. She disappears and I walk outside. I fly up to one of my islands and land. I start Meditating while thinking of fire. I want to get some more powerful fire Spells. I know the Demon God is weak to Light. But I can't see myself using Light magic. I Meditate for two hours before opening my eyes. I check my notifications and smile.

New Spell: Flame Burst Lvl 1

Flame Burst lets you fire three balls of fire. They fly toward the target as soon as they've been cast. Each ball deals 50% of your intelligence as damage. They have a small chance to light the target on fire. MP Cost: 50

New Spell: Great Fire Ball Lvl 1

Great Fire Ball creates a large ball of fire, about six feet tall. It can be sent toward a target or detonated. Once it comes into contact with anything, it explodes. The explosion will deal your intelligence as damage. MP Cost: 75

New Spell: Fire Mine Lvl 1

Fire Mine allows you to create an invisible ball of fire. It can be placed on the ground or in the air. It will remain wherever it was cast at. The Mine will detonate when someone other than the caster touches it. It will explode dealing your intelligence as damage. MP Cost: 50.

I take out my Crown, Guild Ball, and Ayashis Package. I place my Guild Ball in my Crown and smile wider.

Guild Ball Accepted, Transferring power to the associated spell. Spell Enhance Party has been activated. Enhance Party will boost the power of those in your party. It will enhance their attack and defense by 10%. The Guild Ball has increased the boost to 15%!

I reequip the Crown and look at the package. I see a small cardboard box and open it. Inside is a binder. I open it up and see it's a more detailed report of the plan Ayahsi had me read this morning. I store it away for later and fly down to my Cabin. I'm curious about the Champion quest. I enter my Cabin and find Gaia sitting on the couch. She stands up when she sees me.

"Eric, can we talk? It's going to take a while." She asks and I nod. I follow her upstairs to my Crafting workshop. She sits down at the table and motions for me to sit on the other side. I sit down and she starts talking.

"So Eric, I heard from Verona that you healed her during your battle with Fear. She said you told her that you did it without thinking. Is this true?" She asks and I nod, wondering where this is going. "Do you not know what that means?" She asks upon seeing y confused expression.

"No, not really." I reply and she chuckles.

"Do you remember when you had your Mana Surge? How your thoughts were split, trying to act according to the various Schools of magic you knew?" She asks and I nod again. "This is similar to that. Your mind stopped. You pushed everything else aside to try to figure out how to heal Verona. Your mind couldn't find an answer so your magic took over. It healed her before returning control to your mind. This has happened to others before, and we call it a person's Magic Instinct. What this means is that your instinct was to heal Verona, before doing anything else." Gaia explains.

"Is this what you brought me here for?" I ask a little confused. She said it would take a while. But this wasn't even five minutes.

"No, we're getting to that. I just wanted to thank you again. And explain why Verona ran off like that. She's not good with her emotions, as I'm sure you've noticed. So when you told her that she got embarrassed and ran away." She explains before taking a deep breath.
