Chapter 3

What's next?
The Melon Club
Danny arrived at the Melon Club at about 9pm. He parked near the loading dock in the back, and in a few short trips, brought his equipment inside. He left most things in a small room off the kitchen, and decided he would carry two cameras into the club itself -- one for distance shooting, one for close up work.
The goal was to highlight a new DJ, whose manager, Ray, had hired him to create a promotional collection. Danny didn't totally understand this side of the music industry. But "DJ Wink" was, according to his manager, the next hot thing. Danny checked his phone for the text from Ray. Come meet us at the booth, it said.
Danny stuck earplugs in his ears, and ventured out into the club. He approached the DJ booth, and there was DJ Wink -- mixed race, green velour jacket, gold chains (one of which had a giant eyeball pendant on it, god, I hope that's not a real eyeball), no shirt, white parachute pants, and hair teased to be about a mile high. He was dancing to the music, waving his arms, and doing something to the equipment in front of him. Not only did Danny have no clue how the music industry worked, he had no clue how DJing work. They don't just pick songs?
Next to the booth was a small figure in dark clothes. They only reason Danny's eye saw it was because amidst all the lights and music and dancing, this person was still. Danny couldn't make out enough details, so he walked over to the booth. As he got closer, he thought he made out enough facial features to say to himself, is that a woman? He kept looking around for who he thought might be Ray. They had only exchanged texts, so he wasn't sure who he was looking for. He checked his phone again.
Finally he got to the booth, and the woman -- now more easily identifiable, wearing a tight black t-shirt, black jeans and boots, sunglasses, and hair slicked back into a high, cascading ponytail -- took a step toward him. "Danny?" she said.
He nodded. "Yes, that's me."
"I'm Ray. Good to meet you. Obviously, that's Wink. Let's get started."
"Ray. Okay."
"Short for Rachel. You thought I was a dude. Happens all the time."
The two of them discussed plans. Danny figured he'd stay about 30 minutes, capture a whole bunch of pictures of the club scene, distance shots that focused on DJ Wink in action, close-up shots of Wink at work, and done.
Where does the action heat up?
