Chapter 3

what's the story?

The Ad

"What are you doing here?!" Juliet and Rachel screeched at each other as they stood outside the same mansion on the outskirts of town.

"I'm here to reply to a job ad!" Juliet said to her rival as she held up her phone, showing Rachel an online ad that read 'Babysitter Wanted'. "This woman's offering $895 an hour just to watch her kid!"

"Oh, screw you! That's the ad I'm answering to!" Rachel snapped as she held up her phone, showing the exact same ad. "And I'm the one who's gonna get it!"

"Well," the nineteen year old Juliet said haughtily to her twenty-two year old rival, "it looks like this woman is going to have to interview both of us for this position. May the best woman win! By which, of course, I mean -"

"Oh, don't worry." Rachel interrupted with a cocky smile, "I plan to."

The two women growled at each other as they walked up the steps of of the stoop until they reached the front door. Rachel reached for the knockers... Just as Juliet rang the doorbell with a smug smile on her face. Rachel snarled and grabbed her rival's arm, wrestling with Juliet as the two girls pushed and shoved the other.

"Can I help you?"

Juliet and Rachel stopped their horseplay as they heard the voice, looking up to see a chubby woman in her late thirties, dressed in a fancy blouse and skirt with a pair of glasses, staring at the two in confusion. The two women blushed and chuckled sheepishly as they stepped away from each other.

"We're here for the job -" the two women said simultaneously, stopping to look at each other before turning back to the woman. "We're here for -" they looked at each other again, glaring at each other in annoyance.

"We're here for the job interview." Juliet finally said, giving her best smile while simultaneously giving Rachel a dirty look, the other woman rolling her eyes.

The older woman gasped as an ecstatic smile came to her face as she brought her hands together. "You girls are here for my ad!" She exclaimed, "How wonderful! I was starting to think that it would never be answered! Please, come in! Come in!"

The older woman quickly ushered the two younger women inside, closing the door behind them. She then ushered the two into the living room and gestured to two arm chairs.

"Please, have a seat!" The woman said as she poured some tea into a couple of cups and handed them to Juliet and Rachel. "Tea?"

"Thank you, Ms. ... Uh..."

"Oh, where are my manners?!" The woman giggled, "My name's Marie Adams, but everyone calls me 'Mama'."

"Thank you, Ms. Adams." Juliet repeated as she and Rachel took the tea.

"So, are you two applying together, or...?"

"Oh no." Rachel explained, "We're trying to see who gets the position first."

"Well, right now you both look perfect for the position." Marie stated, "I guess we should get to the questions then."

"Yes, Ma'am." The young women replied simultaneously.

"First and foremost, how are you girls with diapers?"

"My last job was at a daycare, so I have experience with them." Juliet replied.

"That's nothing!" Rachel challenged, "I babysat my six younger cousins since they were newborns. And two of them are incontinent."

"How about punishments if they're naughty?" Marie continued. "If they were to break a rule, throw a tantrum, or say a 'No-no' word, for example."

"Well, I believe in a firm and fair approach." Rachel said, "If they can only learn through them, then I don't see anything wrong with a spanking, corner time, washing their mouth's with soap. But only as a last resort."

"I... Actually agree with that." Juliet admitted sheepishly as Rachel smiled smugly at her.

"Excellent!" Marie exclaimed happily, "I think I may have made my decision!"

"You have?" Rachel and Juliet asked in confusion. That was quick.

"Yes! I want both of you!" Marie replied with a wide grin, taking a sip from her tea. Juliet and Rachel looked at each other as they took drinks from their respective cups, turning back to ask what the older woman meant before getting cut off again. "Oh, this is the best day of my life! Being born infertile, I had always thought I'd never have a child. Now I have two baby girls!"

Juliet and Rachel blinked at that. That was a weird thing to say. And didn't the ad say they were supposed to be babysitting one kid?

After a few seconds, Juliet realized something as she cleared her throat. "Actually, when are we going to meet the little darlings, anyway?"

"Oh, I just put them down for their nap." Marie replied with a knowing smile, "You'll see them very soon, however. Even if they end up a little cranky and scared."

Now the girls were starting to feel a little concerned. Rachel opened her mouth to say something when a dizzy spell came over her, the woman passing out within seconds as she slumped into the chair.

"Rach-" this was all Juliet could get out before she got struck with the same dizzy spell and passing out as well.

Eyeing the two sleeping girls, Marie sat her cup down and smiled wider. She knew placing that fake ad was a good idea, even if 99% of the people who saw it laughed it off as a joke. All her life she wanted nothing but kids, and even with infertility standing in her way and being deemed crazy by everyone she met, she was going to get her wish by any means!

And that ad had acted like her personal stork!

Now though, she needed to get her two new bundles of joy ready for the rest of their lives...

What happens when Juliet and Rachel wake up?
