Chapter 6 by Miriam Miriam

Are you a match for the movie industry? How do you answer?

Tell him the full truth

You bite your lower lip. You feared this question. This is it; you have to make yourself seem desirable and you really don't have a good answer. You briefly consider outright lying about it, but then decide it's better to just stick to the truth.

"I... just really need the money. I replied to a lot of job ads in the hopes something would stick", you say, averting your gaze and knowing that you pretty much ruined any chance of landing this job just now. You tell yourself it's for the best. You don't think you could convince anyone that you're an actual proper actress. Red is silent for a while, and when you look back up at him you half expect him to show you the door.

Instead, you're surprised to see a smile on his face. "I really appreciate your honesty", he tells you, tapping the clipboard with the back of his fingernail. He seems to think for a moment as he looks you over. "Well, normally I'd say that's the end of the interview. But I like you, and you certainly have your looks in your favor", Red answers. "Do you have any acting experience at all whatsoever?"

"I did go to an acting class a few years ago. But it was just for a few months", you tell him truthfully. You don't tell him that you gave that up because you got bored of it and decided to spend the time on other activities instead. You've burned through a lot of short-lived hobbies that way.

"It's... something", Red says in a friendly voice, surprising you with how positive he is behaving so far. Normally you are used to interviewers outright dismissing any such trivial work experience as worthless. "Tell you what", Red says. "I'm going to be nice and give you a shot to let you prove yourself"

"That's... very kind", you admit, although you're not sure it will matter much. You'll give it your best shot, of course, but you don't have very high hopes in your own acting ability. Then again, perhaps you should have guessed their standards aren't all too high just by the state of this building.

"Oh, don't worry, even some of the best actors started without any experience.", Red says with a wide smile. "Now, before we proceed. Do you want coffee or something else to drink?"

Do you want something to drink?
